Hi all, I posted a while back determined to kick this habit after a very bad spell, I managed to quit for a couple of days max and have since been betting every day that I've had money only stopping when i finally ran out, back again as I need to stop before I get to the point of no return, I have gotten myself into a lot of debt, £2700 loan, £1900 overdrawn on my bank so not far off £5000 worth of debt, may not be a lot to some but it is to me and will take me at least 2 year to pay back and that's if I don't gamble, I have a gorgeous little boy and I'm missing out on so much because this gambling is destroying everything, I last gambled yesterday, today I have been getting a few thoughts to gamble so have self excluded from the last few remaining sites, I'm finding it hard but I do need to stop I have no choice. Knowing that I will be in debt for at least 2 years scares me and makes me want to gamble to try win back what I owe but I know I will only end up worse. I am determined this time, I need to start living again and giving my boy what he deserves before he grows old enough to realise. Please any advice I will be greatful for.

Hi there !. As you've been here before you must realise that in order to stop gambling , that's exactly what you need to do !.

There's no half measure's I'm afraid and no easy route to take !.

Make sure you have no access on any iphone , laptop, phone , ipad , pc or kindle , block them all and do it now , you need to break the Time, money , location, triangle, remove one and you cant bet , "it works" .

The debt's we end up with can be a trigger to start gambling again , we think just one big win and I'll be fine ,pay everything back and life will be good again ? , trouble is ,if we do win , we blow the lot again qnd thats the cycle of a compulsive gambler . we cant win because we cant stop !

You have to let all the losses go in order to move forward , its gone its not coming back , so accept it and stop chasing your losses , it's the only way !. We all have debt's through gambling , accept that your going to have to pay that back over time but by stopping gambling the debt will go down and you won't be adding to it anymore.

Focus on your son for inspiration , if that photo doesn't do it , what will ?.

Gambling sucks us all in, we enjoy it for the right reasons at first but gradually it becomes less and less about the money and just about the buzz and that becomes really expensive to satisfy .

Maybe speak withthe gamcare team regarding blocks or debt advice if you feel the need ? , posting on here and reading the story of other likeminded people also helps to fight the urge , your not on your own with this, as there's tons of support available on here from people who know exactly what your going through !.

Take one day at a time worriedmummy, little steps and in time the worries will fade ! Best wishes for now . ...Alan

Hi,

I can only emphasise on the top advice that Alan has provided you with.

I understand your concern about debt. For me it's another 4 years to clear. Am I worried - no. It will be paid when it is paid. Stepcahnge will deal with that.on my behalf. My energy moves into my recovery and continued abstaining.

You can do it. You have to prove to yourself you can do it.

Best wishes

thank you for your comments I appreciate you taking the time out to help me, your right my son does deserve the very best and its long overdue but now he is going to get my attention 100%, my big down fall is online slots, I have never stepped foot into a bookies in my life, but can easily spend 100's in a few hour online, I have self excluded from all sites that I had now, but have stills received a few promotion text messages off some of these sites since? So having to block every number as it comes through. I do most of my gambling at work, as I'm not at work until tonight I'm hoping it will be a gamble free day, so determined this time!! sorry for rambling on.

Hi there , the first few day's are always hard , it will become easier as the days pass but you have to change what you do , the way you plan your day !.

Your brain has become used to the routine , just like getting up in the morning and having that first tea or coffee, it's automatic?.

It's no good just sitting and dwelling on it , you need to change focus and get up and do something else , occupy your mind !

Little steps !! Alan

Good for you , always thinking ahead is what you need to do , keep the doors locked so Mr Gamble can't get in ,

the less temptation the better.

Enjoy your gamble free day !!.

Best wishes ..............................Alan

Thank you ALAN, I am feeling kind of positive today for the first time for a while, I am going to see family today before going to work so will be no time to gamble! I am getting rather fed up of all the messages/emails even though I have self excluded from sites, or new sites offering bonuses, they don't half make things harder 🙁 I have always found weekends harder as I spend a lot of time at home, need to make sure all blocks in place ready for the upcoming weekend, I am so determined this time.

Well what a crappy day!! Not gambled but been having some health problems for a while, had to go to the doctors for a examination due to a number of things and it looks like I may have chrons disease 🙁 I haven't felt the best lately but put this down to not long having my ballbladder removed, what a kick in the teeth, now I'm petrified, normally this would be a massive reason for me to gamble the thought entered my head and straight away I thought you know what, I've wasted enough of my life chasing money when there's more important things, life's too short, instead I'm gunna dose up on painkillers and cuddle my little boy in bed while watching films, so another gamble day free but a very sad one also 🙁
