Back on day 2, gambling is defo not my friend. Losing is making me so angry and moody. It's time too give up for ever going too a new level. The loses are making me furious and harder too take. So much good in my life now and too much too lose. Getting married next year and can't afford any big loses. Moving onto day 3 and feeling positive. Moving forward past is the past. I am a compulsive gambler and must not gamble.

Ally, did you self-exclude whilst you were in the bookies?

yeah I self excluded from the bookies. On day 5 feeling positive and can't believe how stupid I had been. Moving forward and getting back on tracks. I woke up this morning and admitted too myself I am a compulsive gambler and should not gamble. No point in gambling with the good in my life. Feeling happy within myself again.

On day 6 nearly 1 week since my last gamble. Feeling positive and getting things back on tracks. It's nice too watch sport and all the shocks coming through like Valencia beating Real Madrid last night. Moving forward past is in the past. I am a compulsive gambler and must not gamble.

Hi ally1981,

Thanks for your post, and well done for abstaining, and also for admitting to yourself you are a compulsive gambler, and therefore, you must not gamble (as paraphrased).

It seems like taking it one step at a time is yielding some positive result for you, thus I’ll encourage you to keep to what works for you.

You have also taken a step in the right direction when you went to the bookies and self-excluded. Good on you, ally1981!

I think it would also be advisable to put some additional strategies in place to help you to control, and eventually overcome your compulsive gambling.

I suggest that you contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers for ideas on helpful strategies to enable you to manage and eventually overcome your gambling. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Have you thought about having some counselling sessions to help you make sense of what you’re going through, and also as a support to enable you to get over your problematic gambling?

In fact, Gamcare can refer you to 12 sessions of free counselling, and nearest to where you live, if that would be beneficial to you in stopping gambling.

I advise that you keep reading the posts from our Chatroom/ Forum for more strategies to help you to overcome your gambling problem.

Please do and try and stay in touch so we’ll know how you’re progressing, and just in case you need further help and support, and please keep posting.

Best wishes,

Beatrice

Well done on 8 days gamble free.

Keeping busy is one of the best solutions as I found one of my key triggers was simply boredom and need for thrill to district from work I had to do.

You sound like you really have a good mindset which is vital. Keep telling yourself you are a CG everyday - this is really good. I am thinking about writing a sticky note to put above my laptop with the same thing so I can constantly see it and it might help if I get an urge.

Good luck for the next week!

Hi thanks adam960 for your kind words. Yeah keeping busy is the key. I love watching sport as the results can be big upsets at times and you can see then you have saved yourself money. Once i am stopped i am fine. Its that one bet and i am away again. Feeling positive on day 9. I woke up this morning and admitted too myself, I am a compulsive gambler and must not gamble. The demon will always be with me. The main aim for me is not too tet the demon in again. Feeling happy and positive. Here is too another gamble free day.

Day 19, had a few urges last week. Stayed gamble free. Felt good I remained gamble free. I am a compulsive gambler and must not gamble. Worst thing is, they advertise prices all over the Tv. My next best would be the end not the amount I would lose. Reading autobiographies of people who have lost everything through gambling. Scary stuff. Here is too another gamble free day. Stay positive and focused

Hi Ally.

You are doing really well, reaching day 20 - I am 2 days behind you! Do you have any blocks in place as an extra security blanket, for when those urges come racing along? Self exclusion for me, was the main reason I was able to remain gamble free for just over two and a half years. I now have them firmly back in place once more.

It's always a good reminder too, like you said, thinking back to when you last lost all your money and remembering just how bad and desperate this made you feel.

Take care and stay positive. You are doing great.

Our Lady.
