Charly

Your post on my diary this week has really given me a new clue about how to attack this gambling thing.

I can't thank you enough.

Do post soon to let us know how things are with your Dad. Said Prayer as I promised.

Thinking of you.

David

HI charly,

Have started to read your diary, as i have been really impressed with your insightful words on my, and others' diaries. Thought I would check our your story, but its going to take a while as you have been posting for a long time now.

Thanks so much for your valuable contributions to these diaries, as i have been genuinely touched by your words of support.

As i am feeling much calmer now (it took a while for my nerves to calm down after quitting gambling) Im going to try a GA meeting, even though i have to travel a whole 15 miles to it, lol!

My partner works late some evenings anyway so can meet me to travel back home safely on the train.

Take care,

Freda x

Hi Diary

First of all - a big THANK YOU to all of you who have written here and prayed with me for my Dad.

It seemed to have worked. (But then it always does, God does listen and helps wherever possible)

Dad is back home now and is feeling much better. Mum is now in charge of sorting his tablets out. He hadn't taken them properly and maybe that contributed to him feeling this bad. Also, they let him out of hospital too soon after his bronchitis/borderline pneumonia.

They have now put him on Warfarin because one of his heart chambers is not pushing the blood around properly. By thinning the blood the doctors are hoping it will just flow out rather then putting extra strain on his already dodgy heart.

That is all they can do and we have to be grateful for every day Dad is with us.

I spoke with him and he sounds a lot better then he did last week Sunday.

Thank you again for all your Well Wishes and prayers.

For the first time in just over 2 years I decided not to go to my weekly G.A. meeting. Normally it wouldn't matter what we did on a Sunday. I would always make sure we were back in time for me to go to my meeting.

Yesterday my angel and I went to Monkey World in Dorset. I have an annual pass and so has my angel. We adopted 2 Orang Utans. I think it is marvellous what the primate care staff at Monkey World does to protect and care for apes and monkeys who have been rescues from all sorts of horrible backgrounds. They are also involved in a breeding program for species tha are endangered. I recommend a monkey or ape adoption. It's a great day out and to see the apes and monkeys develop and see how happy they are now is worth watching. I could spend every day there. Am planning to go camping at the campsite next to them soon for a week and see if I can do some volunteer work there.

Anyhow.... we didn't get back home until 6:30pm. I decided then I wouldn't go to my meeting. I was tired and didn't want to rush around. By the time I cooked our dinner it was 7:30 and that is the time my meeting starts. It's strange today because I have always taken enough out of a meeting to keep me going for the week.

Strange because I don't know if I am missing the meeting or not. They say to stay stopped gambling you need to go to meetings. They say meetings make it. And..I am not doubting that for a moment. I have seen what it does to people who go every week and those who come for a few weeks, think they are cured and then come back a few months later worse off then ever.

I have to think about how I feel...all I can say at the moment is...strange....

I might go to one of the other groups this week, I'll see how I feel....

All the best to all of you...and Thank You

God Bless

Charly

Hi Charly

Pleased to hear of your Dad's improvement.

I must say that when I miss GA I also feel really weird. The following day I feel somewhat low as well. My meetings are Thursdays and Sundays and if I miss then the Fridays and Mondays I feel quite low.

Strange feeling.

hi charly,

Thanks for your continued support, it helps a great deal.

Glad your dad is back home with your mum and things are going a little better.

i noticed you also adopted some orangutans, what fantastic animals they are, i went to see some in the wild last year in indonesia, a place in the north called bukit lawang, went on a jungle trek for a few nights and it was great to see them in there natural habitat, although I'm not sure i could do it again....:-)

catch ya soon charly.

Hi Charly, hope you are feeling ok. Good news on your health and that of your Dad.

A few alarm bells ringing for me what you said. i know we all go through times when we question what we are doing and is it necessary etc. What i would say is its not "they" who are saying it, "you" have said it on many occasions and know in your heart that meetings have got you where you are today. Missing one meeting soon becomes two and two become three etc, been there too many times myself lol

This illness preys on the weak and will try all it can to find a way to play with your mind telling us things, questioning us, making us feel "strange" wondering if we are on the right path or is there an alternative to what we are doing.....do we need it anymore?

Doing what you have been doing has got you to two years of positivity. I dont think you would be the person you are today without GA and the strength it has given you.

We all have to work things out for ourselves and find our path in life..........i hope and pray you carry on the right one. xxx

Hi Charly

Thanks for your post on my diary. So glad to hear the news of your dad's improvement.

The prayers worked!

I'm still sticking by those 2 things you said to do - Avoid trigger/s and ODAAT. It's working. Thanks again.
