Today I feel blessed. I feel blessed every day, but especially today. It is my Birthday today and I received so very many well wishes, it overwhelmed and awed me. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I was worth anything much. I hid in my gambling world. It was safe. Then I made the brave step into recovery and very slowly I learnt so many magical things. I am not a bad person. I live with my addictive personality. I learn to live with the real me. Because I can be honest and open now and because I have changed a lot of me from within, people on the outside get to see the real me. And guess what? I like me now and strangely enough, others like me too.

Therefore I am thankful and grateful to the 12 steps and all it entails. I pray for those who are still looking for their paths and for those who have found it but aren't sure what to do with it yet. Let go and let God(of your understanding). Trust in a Higher Power. With all my heart I wish you a gamble free life. God Bless. Sabine xx

Hi Sabine,

Thankyou so much for your kind words. Just been reading through some of the earlier parts of your diary, I will admit I have not read the whole thing as I think it would take all day, or longer.

You've come so far from where you started and I'm so happy for you. You've endured a life time of pain in such a short space of time. It gives me hope that if you can put all that behind you, then maybe I can deal with my stuff too. Thankyou.

And Happy Birthday. I hope you have a really great and fulfilling day.

Thank you for my birthday wishes you kind people. xx

Please find below today's thoughts form Hazelden.

Have a nice, gamble free weekend.

God Bless

Sabine xx

Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Being on the tightrope is living; everything else is waiting.

--Karl Wallenda

In walking a tightrope, a person has to learn to relax while going forward in a situation filled with risk. If he is tense and keeps his body rigid, he will lose his balance and fall. But if he stays relaxed and keeps his muscles loose while remaining very focused, he can continuously respond and readjust his balance while walking. Then he will experience the exhilaration of success. This is a perfect metaphor for life itself, for growing in an intimate relationship and for growing in recovery.

Life itself is a risk. When we hold on too tight, remain too guarded, and anxiously try to control every factor, we become stiff and reactive rather than calm, focused, and responsive. The guidance of this path teaches us to let go of our anxieties and leads us to peace of mind. When we learn to do that, we can deftly walk our path and more effectively maintain our balance in dealing with whatever comes up.

Today I will calm myself while walking on my path.

Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way.

--Florence Scovel Shinn

Should we make this move? Should we change jobs? Should we talk to others about our feelings? We are seldom short on prayers when we're filled with fear and indecision. We are, however, short on answers. Our worries block them out.

No prayer ever goes unanswered. Of this we can be certain. On the other hand, the answer may not be what we'd hoped for. In fact, we may not have recognized it as the answer because we were expecting something quite different. It takes willingness on our part to be free of our preconceptions--free to accept whatever answers are offered.

Our answers come unexpectedly, a chance meeting on the street, a passage in a book or newspaper, a nagging feeling within. God speaks to each of us throughout the day. Our prayers are answered, our problems find solutions, our worries are eased, if we but attune ourselves to the messages. They are all around.

I will be attentive to all the signs from God today. Whatever answer I seek is finding its way to me.

When things go well once I stopped gambling, I seem to think recovery is easy. And then something happens and I get thrown off balance. That is the time I need to watch out for those little gambling demons on my shoulder. Money! I can't live with it and I can't live without it. Because of my weekly treatment I can't work at all. I get benefits for now. I went from a full time job to a part time job to not working. £14k a year drop in income. Incredible! I should be concentrating on getting better rather than worry about bills. The demons lurke, they are ready to pounce. I won't gamble. I have too many tools of recovery to use. However! I must be on my guard. I will have one more treatment on Tuesday and then I have a week off which will be utilised in a boating holiday. 10 days on the Warwickshire canal. 4 of us chilling. I'm so looking forward to that. You see, there are up and downs in my life but I make the most of it. Thank you Higher Power for helping me live my life in a good way. God Bless xx

Hey Sabine,

Sorry to hear about the money worries. I reckon you have a great attitude toward it though, what can you do? try to calmly accept it and do the best you can.

Hope you enjoy your holiday 🙂 and I see you have almost reached your fundraising target - high five!!!

Take care, lots of love,

f x

Hiya Sabine,

I'm so sorry to hear about the work situation, a dreadful drop in finances. I hope you are getting all the benefits you are entitled too....just a thought...citizens advice might be a good place to check in with? I have in the past not claimed for things I was entitled to, because I'm not benefit savvy and nobody tells you!

Thinking about you.
