Day 56: I’m not counting; it just on my profile. The first few weeks were hard. I was angry about being banned from the bookies, but it needed to be done. I’ve switched off gambling; I just don’t need it and don’t want it. If the thought pops into my head, I think of my kids or something else. I work with a gambler, and if he starts talking about bets or odds, I just walk away. It’s hard to escape gambling and gamblers since it’s everywhere — on TV, radio, and so on.
I feel for people who can’t snap out of it, chasing that feeling and thinking they need to gamble. But give yourself time and convince your mind that you don’t need it. That’s what I’ve done. I saw a staff member from the bookies and told him I won’t be back in the shop, and I won’t.
A lot of members have helped me on this site, and I want to say thank you. It’s great! After a few weeks in the chat room, you get to know people; all they want to do is help and support each other. I just wish the chat room was open longer hours; I think it would help more people.
