Hii guys

My name is Paul and I am back again, don't want to bore you all with the story but you know how the song goes - went on a number of days gamble free and then fell off the wagon, again!

Well, let's just say that yesterday was not a good day on the FOBT's, however, whilst feeling sorry for myself and scouring the net I came across a blog and had a Eurika moment. This blog can be applied to all gambling but is specifically for the FOBT's/slot machines. In it, the person describes the reason for gambling on these d**n things, it is to get an enormous rush, a high all through your body. That happens when you have put your stake on, pressed the button and are waiting for the result, that split second, this feeling is like a drug which you can't buy or get anywhere else, when you are away from gambling we get an urge and that is your brain telling you that you need this high and is very difficult to shake off.

The good news is that it can be beaten, when you get this urge, if you can recognise why you are getting it then you can do another activity for a short while and the urge will pass. I now know that the FOBT's and other gambling activities (for me anyway), is not about the winning or losing but about getting this tremendous rush and when I win this rush is multiplied tens of times making my addiction even stronger. I will from now on go for a long walk every time I get this urge.

I now know the reasons for my addiction and have tools to beat it - every time!

All about the 'urge' from now on for me, when I get one, I will recognise it but won't act on it.

I will go for a walk but won't tell myself that I will never, ever gamble again but instead I will say 'No Paul, you are not going to gamble today'.

On the subject of the urge, when I get one and even before being tempted I will say to myself that don't just think about the present situation but follow the urge through to the end.

The end result will always be a destructive loss, always.

Like for example when I was on a golden run, took £200 out of the FOBT in a day, £300 the next day, £150 the next day and £125 the following, all the above amounts and more went back into the FOBT in one horrendous afternoon.

Destroyed me totally - do I really want to participate in an activity that will bring me to almost tears?

Remember guys, nothing worse then a destroyed gambler.

Paul
