Well done Dave, keep it going! By next weekend we will both be 100 days gamble free 🙂

A great achievement - hopefully its the first of many many more milestones for the rest of our lives gamble free.

Stay strong.

Just spent some time re-reading my diary from my early days of attempting to quit gambling this time around.

It is interesting to see how those people who doubted me at the start have vanished into thin air as my resolve and recovery has taken hold. Will they be around to congratulate me on reaching 100 days tomorrow? Doubtful. Would they be the first to post with the whole 'told you so' guff if I slip up? Highly likely.

I would also add that counselling has made the difference for me this time around. I wasn't able to access this through gamcare as I couldn't make the session on offer and there is no GA or the like within 45 minutes of where I live. I sought it privately. It may have cost £50 hr but it was money well spent and a drop in the ocean compared to what I would have lost if I had continued gambling. To all those who dismiss counselling I would say that it has made the difference for me this time around. Without it I doubt that I would be where I am today.

Hi Dave,

Firstly well done on big 99 ☺. Great achievement for sure!

Now I'm not sure if it's still "stinking thinking" i have but i have to second your last post. I would feel exactly the same. Your diary got kind of abandoned pretty quickly after the initial postings :-/...feel a lil irony here.
I also think that us all being addicts have a lil different outlook on things. Most important thing which is easy to forget is that we all have made mistakes, bigger or smaller but ultimately we all betrayed our loved ones and their trust while in the act of addiction. This has to be a reminder to all before making any judgement. We are all the same.
Anyway, you MUST do it for yourself. Do not look for the validation of others cause it might put you in jeopardy. I went along those lines for far too long. I did stuff to make others feels happy, it just doesn't work whatsoever.

Keep doing it for yourself, reap the benefits of counselling and stay vigilant because this addiction is very sneaky. Hope your relationship with your wife has improved over time, keep being honest & open, share and talk things through...she is in recovery with you so you both need to help each other.

I see you succeeding..i wish you success ☺

Keep on keeping on & please remember - you are the most important link in this recovery. Work at it one day at a time

Sandra x

Welcome to the Century club you've done brilliantly.

I'm a GAer but I'm not blind to the fact it's not for all find what works for you and it sounds like counselling is for you. Like my good friend looxie taught me there's more than one way to cook a spud.
