So I have been back and forward to this site over the past two years on numerous occassions - the longest I have abstained is 90days before falling off the wagon again!

I had a major binge over chrstmas but thankfully it did not ruin christmas and my wee girl got all she wanted from the bearded one!!!

A new year equalls a new start - I dont want this life anymore - I want more for me my wife and my daughter! I have been gambling for ten years and amasses debts of close to £15k. However through payplan I have managed to devrease this to £6.5k. However because of my binge I cannot make this months payment which will mean creditors come knocking again!

But the bottom line is unless a conquer the gambling habit then the debts will grow again!

My last bet was Saturday 28th January a day when I felt hollow and worthless because I had did it again! But I have dusted myself off and am ready for the fight!

TODAY I WILL NOT GAMBLE BECAUSE I LOVE MYSELF AND MY FAMILY TOO MUCH! WE DESERVE MORE THAN THAT!

Hi Bobby,

Welcome back to the site, posting here can only be a good thing. The 90 days you achieved was a great start and shows you can go a substantial amount of time without gambling. It isn't easier as you know but step by step we can do it.

it seems as if your family is a big motivating factor for you. Every time I get the urge to gamble I imagine the face of my girlfriend on the roulette wheel spinning around because it is her that I would be gambling away in real life.

Good luck, each day is a massive achievement, you can do it.

Hey Bobby,

As someone who has been on and off the wagon for several years ( what seems like half my life ), then I'm sure I don't need to tell you that getting back to the gamble free you is a big first step.

It's tough at the start, but as you've known over those ninety days not gambling becomes a routine that gets easier to keep as you go on. Keep your guard up, and stay strong in the face of this.

All the best

Ryan

Another gamble free day passes - yesterday was tough! I almost had access to money but at the last minute I panicked and said I dint need it after all. Those are the circumstances when I would almost certainly have ended up in the dungeon of doom!

So here is to another gamble free day seeing in the new year! My new approach to this is keep looking forward and the past cannot be changed. It is simple I cannot win at gambling because I am unable to stop. My dad always said there are not too many poor bookmakers in the world and it is not too often you see a bookmaker going out of business because in the long run the bookmaker always wins!!!

Happy 2014 folks - my aim is to stay gamble free and continue eroding the debts which I have amassed.

Cheers

Why do we do it to ourselves? I have been doing alot of soul searhing and would love to know why I gamble is it a habit - have I got some sort of mental block which makes me forget the consequences of my actions?

Who knows??? I would love to understand but dont think I will - gambling has replaced my friends and hobbies I need to remedy this and get my life back!!!]

Gambling I hate you and detest the person you have made me over the past ten years!!!

Hi bobby.

Why do we gamble? I don't know. For me, it was a big mixture of things; boredom, to escape, a stress relief. I think it is an important question to ask ourselves though. As addicts, a bit of soul searching is good because it's important to get to our root problem; if we have one, that is.

Gambling has damaged me in quite a lot of ways over the years in the same way it has done to probably everyone on here. But I guess we have to look at things in a positive light as well. The whole experience of being an addict and now trying to recover is another life lesson and we'll be all the stronger for it.

Hang on in there and maybe you'll find the answer to why you gambled; but only after having went through a long period of abstinence.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi Bobby,

You asked a very important question, which so far no one has replied to you (I know it might have been a one way question but I would like to respond to you), I'm quoting you:

"Why do we do it to ourselves? I have been doing alot of soul searhing and would love to know why I gamble is it a habit - have I got some sort of mental block which makes me forget the consequences of my actions?"

Why do we do it to ourselves?

You would love to know why gambling is a habit?

I think you just answered yourself, you are just not aware of it.

Gambling is not a habit.

It's not.

Not when you try your "luck" with 1 pound nor with 100 pounds or more.

Why?

Because there is no luck in gambling.

There is a guaranteed loss, guaranteed, everytime you place a bet.

You place a bet on the NBA Basketball? 100 to win 190 ... you lose automatically 10% ... you place 100 to win 400? Be sure the odds are stacked against you ... You play slots, roulette, anything ... the system is created in a way that you would always lose.

The more you bet - the more you lose.

Gambling is like a downwards graph, that goes down, the winnings are just spikes in that graph, but the trend won't change.

---------------------------

The Factual Laws of Gambling:

1. Every bet will lead to financial loss.

2. The next bet continues a gambling losing streak.

3. There is not any such thing as luck with gambling.

4. Whatever the gambling house edge, that percentage of money bet is lost.

5. There is not any skill in gambling as far as making money is concerned.

6. Gambling which involves handicapping is betting on random numbers.

7. Being close to winning money is a false perception in gambling.

8. Gambling long enough results in losing all money, credit and assets.

9. It is impossible to permanently win money on gambling house games.

10. The only way to beat gambling is to never bet.
