Hi Everyone,

It's difficult, I just can't seem to control myself. I have weeks where I don't step inside a bookies and then as soon as it's payday, it's all goes on the dreaded machines. It's happened today and I've lost all my wages in less than an hour.

I feel sick and disgusted with myself and even worst I'm taking it out on people I love dearly!

I just need some reassurance and support from others.

I desperately want to give up, before I end up doing something I might regret.

Many thanks! ❤️

Hi there.  I have been in your shoes on so many occasions and my biggest downfall was like yours - payday, where on many occasions it would all be gone in a matter of it being in my account for less than one hour!! I just shudder when I type this.  Please read the diaries on here - read mine if it helps! I am currently on day 313 days g.f.

I would advise to put every block in place if you really do want to stop for once and for all.

I wish you strength and determination.

@j5a6meyr4z thanks for the support and kind words. I want rid of this awful addiction, if it wasn't because of me stupidly following a work colleague into a bookies, I would have never ended up like this and that was over 10 years ago. Before that, I never had any thoughts of gambling. ❤️

@n4lz6qvwy5 hi, you just need to take one day at a time and be kind to yourself. This is an illness you’re dealing with, a really awful illness.

My advice - put every block possible in place. Talk to someone? Get it all out in the open and take accountability for it but don’t feel bad or guilty, you’re a good person. The addiction wants you to carry on lying and hiding it. The moment you say those words out loud, you’re already one up!!! Can anyone take over financial control?

All the above helped me after so many attempts to stop. I am now almost 19 months GF.

Take care,

Claire x

@cpparch thanks Claire! I'm just finding it extremely difficult. More so, when I get paid. I go 3-4 weeks GF because I don't have the money, then as soon as I get paid it all goes on the dreaded machines in the bookies. I'm glad I've come on here and I hope I can use you as inspiration 🙏 x

@n4lz6qvwy5 so you need to block yourself? Triple lock all those doors you’re leaving open when it gets to pay day. It’s honestly the only way. Once you get through one pay day of not going, just think how amazing you’ll feel??

A compulsive gambler will never be a winner, because whatever is won, just goes straight back in again. That ‘big’ win doesn’t exist.

Is there someone else who could have your wages?? It’s about putting everything in place. A gambler cannot have access to money, it just doesn’t work.

Keeo coming on here for any help and advice, it really does help. And know, you’re not the only one!!! X

@n4lz6qvwy5 I was similar to you in that my gambling never started until I was in my mid forties. I then had about 15 years worth of on/off gambling which caused destruction and devastation. Prior to that (and when I am not gambling), I am super savvy when managing my money.

You can start to change things around again but only if you put the necessary blocks in place for starters. Otherwise, the temptation is just too strong to lure us people back.

I wish you all the very best going forward 🤞🙏.
