well the marathon is over, and thank god, i can say i have beaten a marathon now but its back to shorter distances for me. i was planning on about a 3hr45 marathon but the heated zapped my energy at about 19 miles and i had to finish running on complete empty but i managed to stumble round in 4hr 29 and only a third of the people finished, the heat totally killed everyone the winner finished 40 mins behind his time and average finish was over 4 hours which is slow for marathon average. so all in all didnt totally enjoy it but glad i did it
in ways like times on this journey grit your teeth and hold on.
have good week all
Nice one Carl. A great achievement. Not ideal conditions but you done it and that's the main thing. I hope you can have a nice restfull day today.
Hey Carl.. that could have been my post. Same thing happened to me. I was aiming for a sub-4 hour marathon and came in at 4 hours 50 mins... a full half hour slower than last year. Ive done 3 marathons now and each time ive got slower. Its not supposed to go like that. He scratches his head.
A marathon really does take you to the core doesn't it. Its such a big beast to conquer. Like you am gonna down grade to the shorter distances atleast for now. I don't think I will ever do a marathon in the months May to October again.. its just too warm!
Anyway like dave says it is still a great achievement to have ticked the marathon box.. so well done to you and well done to me. Regards... S.A 🙂
Hey Buddy,
Congratulations on a massive achievement. You may not have done the time you wanted but the conditions would have played a massive part. It is something I really want to do next year. For the last 3 years I have run all through the tougher summer months and got up to about 12-13 miles and then let it go during the winter. It's a real tonic and inspiration for me knowing you have done it.
Couple this achievement with the continued abstinence you should be immensely proud of yourself.

day 287
and i managed to get back out on the streets for a run today it felt good, and im focused again for next race.
keep up good work everyone and have good weekend
Hi Carl..good to see that your back running within a week of the marathon. Your times you write in my diary are slightly faster than mine. I think most runners dream of the sub- 1 hour.30 half marathon. My pb is 1 hour 44 and to be honest I don't think I will ever get 14 mins off that time. Under 1 hour 40 is my target. My pb for 10 km is 47 something so an under 45 for that i'd be chuffed with...especially as am over 40!
I did the north dorset village marathon (google it). Also am doing the Birmingham black country half marathon in July..its along the canals between wolves and brum. Last year it was fun cos it was just water and mud...its not pb course (google that too)
Am thinking about the Portsmouth coastal marathon in December ie cool or cold!! The more I think about the last marathon the more I think how warm and humid it was. To do the race in current weather i'd of done much better me thinks.
Anyway like you say, this is not a runners forum, but then again its all part of my recovery and am sure yours to. Thanks for your support... S.A 🙂
Hey Carl
Just popped in the say "hi". I'm glad to see things are good for you.
Keep up the fab effort!
