There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

Terry Pratchett, The Truth

AND THAT IS NOT ME: But that is what I need to be... Ch Ch Ch Changes.... I "coped" and "dealt" with it last time.... now I need to change. Not in dire straights.... but close, close to the edge, " down by a river" not far away... oh B*****r,

Christopher Hitchens: Rest in knowledge.

Here's to seeing the sense, the common sense of it all... the stupidity... unbelievable stupidity, that grasps and drives the me that gambles... like a ghost it consumes the moment within me and creates a moment that , when morning dawns, I believe was somebody else.... not the true me.

I am willing to try something else.... I needed to say something, put something down in stone... and this was it... for me... will read it back to myself tomorrow and hope it makes sense.

Jon

PS: Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Terry Pratchett, Discworld

Jon! Mixed emotions. I'm ecstatic to hear from you and glad you're back, you've been sorely missed just sorry to hear you had the odd bet. I binge to, in my nature, lovely when it's happening, heavenly in fact, only when it's out of your system and look back you begin to tut and say 'oops.' still, your loss is our gain because it's always nice to hear from you and read those Pratchett pearls of wisdom, I did like the one about the fire, in fact I liked them all but that was my favourite. I'm not going to hit you with all that melodramatic 'pick yourself up speech' because I know it's not necessary. One day though Jon, one day everything will 'fit in place' it's just finding it, that's our quest. I think, maybe not though, maybe we're just lumbering apes lurching from one mistake to another, anyway who cares, at least you're back, in dare I say good company. Oh and I tried countless times Skinner's rats type experiments to curb my gambling, it never worked, I just developed an unhealthy interest in Sado machonism whilst picking my lottery numbers.

Whatever's going through your head at the moment Jon, just ignore it, you've been here before, you know it's not the end of the world, that's supposedly December I think. Take care, I'd better get some sleep, up early.

Steve

Hi Jon,

Great to hear from you. It is I. Sorry to hear that you have been gambling again. You're not the only one! As you know, our efforts are always more long lasting whilst using this forum. So, if you are coming back you would be very welcome. We can trade our lyrics and quotes again whenever you like. Lots of others have enquired and shown interest in your welfare, you made a big impression.

If you don't then I wish you all the best for the future and hope you can stay committed. I binge just like yourself, best if we don't go there at all though as you and I know it leads down a long and sorry road.

Mr Grumpy is that you ?

Nice to see some posts from you I had a feeling you was still reading if not posting.

You say this place didnt work for you, did you give it long enough ? What will you try next ? Which came first the chicken or the egg ?

Either way who gives a f**k, it doesnt matter, you just got to keep experimenting till you find the solution.

And even if this place doesnt work Mr B being back might distract you slightly ?

What do you reckon ?

Glad to hear from you again Jon. Not much has happened here in the meantime, life is just ticking over, as it does, with it's ups and downs surrounded by monotonous predictability. C'est la vie, non? Yet I'm not one to complain. I'm trying my best to love it.

Hope you are ok. The Olympics were good, inspiring, almost went out and bought a yacht and a show jumper, had no room for either though, what with building that velodrome. Started doing bits and pieces of supply, didn't think I'd miss fishing so much, waiting diligently for my first snotty nose, bug and man flu. Only a matter of time. I feel better within myself, different for some reason, can't explain or truly describe it. I'm going to try and enjoy it though before reality intervenes and kicks me in the balls.

I'd better go, up early tomorrow, little one staying over and she'll be bouncing all over my bed about 5:30 wanting her Frosties.

Take care Jon,things are only as bad as we make them out to be. Whatever you need to change you'll change. When you're ready everything will fall into place.

Hi Jonathon,

You know my real name already. I share it with a famous singer.

I am happy if you are to be real friends. I am a gambler and felt your pain from your words. We both seem to be fairly intelligent. I will give 7 days and post to you instructions. The Rush concert was for real and I know I might sometimes come across a bit heavy. No, I am desperate and I think you are too. I will look forward to calls, texts and emails in the near future. If we hit off, the golf could well happen, I don't mind losing, I am used to it. Cheers mate.

Ian.
