Welcome to diaries Richard,:))

Well done for realising you have a problem with gambling, it's tough for us to accept thst we have a problem.

Small steps one day at a time is the way forwards :))

We have a saying on here Time, Money, Location,(environment thanks Dan) take one of these away and it's impossible to play.

We cannot win because we cannot stop, but every single day we don't play, we do win.

Keep posting and reading this does help.

Best wishes

Suzanne x

You need to get those blocks in place mate to stop it being so easy to bet , or at least stop carrying money cards , or not a big amount anyway. Remember , nothing changes if nothing changes ?

Take care buddy !

So had a slip up last night before work losing ВЈ150.. I'm determined to try stay gamble and weed free as I've also knocked a £20 day weed habit. This is going to be very tough but hopefully I can do it. So far 1day of not gambling or smoking weed.

A bad combination there Richard, something I know too well. The weed and gambling going hand in hand to cloud our complex minds.

There's some good people on here, read and mix with the likes who have been very much in your shoes.

Time to give up what you've lost and you'll eventually appreciate what you've got.

Patience! addiction is a process, so is a recovery.

I wish you well

Thanks volcano... I've never really seen it like that.... I thought it best to kick them both together I'm so determined. I'm heading into town in a bit there is a lot of cash in the house but I won't leave with a penny. I have petrol and I'm only popping to the library to grab a few books.. Next door to a bookies Haven't read a book in years lool. But when I'm reading I do enjoy it just trying to keep busy. My only saving grace Is I'm working night so hoping my sweats won't be so bad as I'm coming of the cannabis. How are you getting on?

Little update.. Still haven't returned to the bookies since last night.. Was going to pop out to get the addictive personally gambler book but I've managed to by it and download it to my phone. So will let you guys know how I get on. On the matter of the cannabis I'm really struggling but haven't had a joint in 30hrs now.

Hi Richard

I found that reading really helped me to stay away from gambleing. My downfall was online roulette, but I found by escaping into a really good book it took my mind to another place entirely. I've always loved movies and also found that sticking on a DVD or Blu-Ray kept me away from the temptation......Not gambled for 5 months now and as each day passes the temptation gets less and less.

Good luck to you mate....Be strong and reclaim your life!!

Hi Richard,

Welcome to GC and great to see your determination in putting things right. The combination of drugs & gambling is definitely way to hell. Sadly, i seem to combine drink & gambling, which is once again - disaster. It is hard to break the cycle, addictions are working as a way of escape, all of them are escalating we notice it or not. Weed was my cruch for very long time. Starting with a laugh (and feast) with friends and escalating to the point of first thing in the morning ritual to help me through the day...& no food...as we know, it never stops there...body start requiring "stronger" stuff and joint become just a little something on the side just to help to come down to the ground. I am smoke or any drugs free over 5yrs now. Not saying it was easy, and i did dip my toes in those substances on two occasions in that time, but really feel like reborn now. I guess it's still work in progress, and my other vice is alcohol now..strangely i seem to hold on onto something to help me through....switching addictions is real pain in a b*m.

Anyway, i seem to go on here. I hope your day was better and you have a renewed outlook in life. Stopping both might be shock to the system and your mind, you will crave it, but every step forward will only strengthen your resolve to be a free man again. You can do it, you are on the right track ☺

Be kind to you, draw the line here and now, better life is out there - you have a choice to get out there and enjoy it! Best thing - it's for free!..keep claiming what is yours, keep winning by abstaining. Recovery is a gift and you more than deserve it.

All the best, be kind to you.

Sandra

Go with the flow Richard.

You hit your bottom with regards to gambling, you need to find a bottom for Abstaining with the joints as well I guess.

Something I'm trying with an element of success.
