I have been having a bit of a confidence crisis this past week or so. I felt like throwing in the towel with the new GA group.

However, Jac gave me a good talking to and when i went to the new group tonight I had another good talking to from the other two regular members.

It seems to have done the trick and I am getting back on track.

It may sound daft but as I get nearer my year marker I seem to get more nervous about it.

I will be glad when it has come and gone.

Hi Gull,

Well done for not throwing in the towel which is sometimes the easy option.

Nearly a year wow that is an achievement i myself will be 1 month without playing poker on the 21st nowhere near a year but each day not gambling is an achievement for us all.

Keep up the good work.

hi jim,

not daft at all,i had a similar feeling when i was close to my year but i had already prepared for it so it didnt present me with any major problems.

mine was more of "whats it all about" type of feeling and it made me think if there was any point to recovery.

i decided to go back to basics and re-run the steps, this did the trick and now i,m merrily rolling along again.

i dont worry anymore about how many days ive been stopped,i do belive its very useful to keep an eye on milestones but its not an absolute neccessity, just take it one day at a time as i,m sure you do and everything will carry on as normal.

regards,

"" A NEW LIFE ""

((((Jim)))))

so glad that Jac is a part of your recovery...true support. 🙂

glad you're not giving up on the meeting....seems to me like...if you sat, alone in the room, week after week...'just in case' someone needed a meeting...what an honorable thing...service.

ONE YEAR...quickly approaching 🙂

maybe a little nervous is a good thing? i know that lots of people slip around milestones..but am thinking that that is because their confidence is TOO HIGH? thinking they're doing so good..etc.

just a thought.

Jim

Just a quick "blast from the past" - I don't post these days but do tune in occasionally to check up on old friends. However, one thing that always sticks in my mind when I think about recovery is Gull991 and 22/04/06!!! This reminds me to focus but it also reminded me that the 1st full year is almost there mate. I just wanted you to know that you're still inspiring others to continue their recoveries even if we don't post these days.

Enjoy the moment Jim - you are, and always have been a true gent, a star and an inspiration!

All the very best

Hatch

Hello 🙂

I know you were absolutely devastated when you had your 'slip' after three years of abstinence. But in doing so, i think that it caused a deeper understanding of yourself and the compulsive gambling addiction that you have.

I know how hard it was for you to get back in control. Especially as at the time, you felt as though the 'group' you had been going to, wasn't working for you. I was very worried.

You came to this forum and received so much support..just when you needed it the most.

You became strong again..focused.

I feel that the previous 3 yrs of not gambling were a brilliant achievement, but this last year since your slip has become the real beginning of your recovery.

I am so proud of you Jim.

I think a year is worth celebrating but also remember its just a day..thats all you ever have to do is to decide.. 'Today i will not gamble'

Love you

Jackie xxx

thank you everyone for your messages of support.

the year has had its easy times and its hard times, but i have come through it without having a bet.

I havent done it on my own though..i dont think i could....but with the help of people at GA and people on this site, and most of all with the help of my wife..jac.

I thank you all and am looking forward to continuing my journey on the road to recovery.
