Hear, hear,John!! like you say whatever works. And afterall GA is a charity and it isnt as if they do it to make money out of it.I wish I had one in my town. So I think people should stop being so critical about something that may not work for everyone but for those it does then I raise my glass!!

Noone forces us to gamble and noone can force us to quit and part of our recovery is using our own willpower to make that decision. Good on your success Joy xxxxxx

I have been staying away from this site for a while as the conflict over GA wasn't doing my recovery any good.

Now I am back and resolve not to get into silly arguments over GA or any other method of recovery. each to his or her own. If GA is slagged off then I will not respond as I know it works for me and many others and I dont need to justify my method of recovery to anyone.

Using both GA and these forums have kept me gambling free for the past 14 months..thats endorsement enough for me.

Good luck to everyone trying to beat this addiction...use whatever methods you find useful and dont be put off trying anything just because some people dont understand it.

All the best

Hi Jim, nice to see you back , Jim don't worry about what other people say, if he/she cant *** a simple program then that's their doing, you have to remember that they may have other issues in their life, something that GA has no experience in.

Jim i think you are doing fantastic mate, 14 months off a bet is incredible, when 14 months ago-14 days would have seemed like a dream. you have started a GA meeting to help others like us, you share your experience strength and hope with others, you share experience in what has helped you and not in what hasn't helped you!(sign of a good recovery!) and you carry the message well to other compulsive gamblers still suffering, keep up the good work mate......

Hey Jim,

Great that you're here - I need to read the experience, strength and hope of those who have been in recovery for longer than me. Thankyou.

Love,

Kerrie

Hi Jim,

Thank you for your post in my diary my friend....I'm not doing too bad thanks!!

I would just like to say that you are an insperation to us folks in the early stages of recovery!!!

I only went to my first GA meeting last Monday, but can quite clearly state that it is nothing more than a group of people trying to help each other through their compulsion to gamble!! We are all there to stop this disease from eating away at us and the stories and support from others made me feel very welcome the whole time I was there and when I left I felt so much better for sharing just a little of what I was going through!!!

My name is Colin and I'm a compulsive gambler......

Take care Jim,

Col ;o)

Hi all

Life is still good, yes it has it's ups and downs but without gambling it aint bad.

These days I dont really get urges to gamble...it just isnt part of my life any more. However, I do try to not forget that I am still a compulsive gambler and will always be so.

This doesnt mean that I live my life in fear of returning to gambling, it just means that I remain aware of what I am and what will happen to me if I return to gambling...so I stay away from it.

Compulsive gamblers, like me, are powerless over gambling..it is what compulsive means. It means if I gamble then I will lose control again, If I can remember this then I won't place that first bet ..that bet that will lead to misery once again.

It has taken hard work to get to where I am today, it was hard to accept exactly what I am.....and that is a compulsive gambler, someone who is powerless over gambling, someone who can never gamble again.

I dont miss not gambling, I am just happy that it is something that I no longer do..I wont even buy a raffle ticket these days!

Oh and I am still not smoking..I gave that up almost five months ago!!

Anyway, I hope that people who read this realise that this addiction to gambling can be beaten....you just need to accept that you are addicted!

all the best
