We are all different and we all probably approach our recovery's in different ways.

And so it should be.

I do not claim to have found the answer to compulsive gambling but I do seem to have found a way that is working for me.

We must all find our own way to a life of happiness, free from the misery that compulsive gambling brings us.

It doesn't matter whether that way is the GA way, the Gamcare way, the SMART recovery way or a combination of many different ways, it is what works for us.

Personally I take bits from all over the place..if I see a good strategy then I will use it, I don't care which program it comes from as long as it works for me.

Our beliefs may be different but our goals are the same. We are here to support and help each other as we stumble along the sometimes rocky road of recovery. We should not make this journey more difficult for others just because they are travelling along a path we don't agree with.

Everyones recovery is a personal journey but we can offer each other a shoulder to lean on when the going gets tough.

We can do this alone but it is easier with the help of others.

take care

Hi Jim. You are absolutely right. I just posted a thread on Overcoming Problem Gambling that gives my thoughts on that matter.

Stay strong, Jim. I'm behind you even if I can't do math! Ha ha.

Love, Anna

I have a bit to go before I get to 3 years but I will get there..like you I use a combination of GA, this site and bloody mindedness to stay away from gambling.

Just getting ready to go watch Torquay United play....lucky me!!!!!

I used to pretend I was going to watch them back in the old dark days, when really I would be hiding in the bookies betting money I couldn't afford..lying to my wife.

There are lots of things I enjoy doing that I didnt have time to do when i was gambling.

Today I am going to the football and i will have fun shouting for my team...and if we lose it will not be the end of the world cause I dont have this months shopping money riding on the result!

Life is good without gambling.

all the best

Still bored and off work, but hopefully all this time off is doing what it should and my foot is healing.

Anyway, gambling doesn't really come into my life anymore...don't get me wrong..recovery is a big part of my life and I will never forget that I am and always will be a compulsive gambler.

I don't get urges , I dont have any desire to gamble at all. I just live my gambling free life one day at a time.

I have changed and hopefully will continue to change, for the better.

I could never have got to where I am now without the help of GA, my family and people on this site...or maybe I could have got here, it would have just been a longer, harder journey..who knows. I am just grateful that I am where I am today.

take care

HI Gull

Tanks for sharing your post (ps hope teh foot gets better)

Its good to here that it gets better and the urges go away..I am only 1 month into my recovery and can relate to the changes in me (some a tad scary) but most are liberating..I am looking forward now instead of back and get a tingle of excitement what life has ahead..

Take Care Jim and rest that foot..

All my Love

Lynn
