That message from Seano will have ruffled a few feathers!!

Why do you keep racing pigeons? I suspect you have never beaten one yet!!

Glad to see things are still great in your world mate.

All the best

Thanks for your post on my diary Jeff, I agree that the more gambling free days you get behind you the easier it gets. I think my personal battle now is against complacency. As long as we stay on our guard there is no reason why life cannot continue to get better. I may not post on your diary often but I do read it and diaries like yours have helped me stay focussed on what I really want from life and what I don't want in it, namely gambling. And congrats on getting passed 9 months, hopefully I'll get there soon.

Cheers mate and all the best

Dave

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the post mate. In answer to your question i would not have got near the winner of the Open. I'd never even heard of him. Chalk that one up as another great result for the bookies.

I see City are sniffing around Donovan now! Hands off! Grrrrrr.

Hi Jeff, thanks for post re Fantasy football mate.

Already do this, have done for years. Wouldnt count it as gambling, no stake involved. Good fun tracking how your team is doing though.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the post mate.

I think you are right. I have always had an appetite for self-destruction and now that i am not doing my brains in at the betting shop i might as well do it on the golf course.

Enjoy your week Jeff.

Hi All

Ive not posted on my diary for a while although i have read and posted on others. The thing is i have had nothing to report. You can only say i have not gambled so many times, although that in itself is good news. Not so good news is the way im playing golf at the moment lol.Really badly.

As i am writing this post horse racing has just come on tv.I may watch it.

Things have moved on a lot since i first stopped gambling. I would know what time racing was on and i would definatley watch it.These days i can take it or leave it.

Sport on tv is so much more enjoyable when you are watching it without a bet.You are watching the whole race or whole football match etc, instead of just your horse or just the first goalscorer. All the best Jeff.

Geoff....I'm sure your golf will improve....you just need to play more! I know what you mean about having nothing to post. On the overcoming gambling page there is a very good argument to keep posting for ever. The post starts with a piece by 'ford' on fobt. It's food for thought. Russ

Hi Jeff, great to read that all is going well,i know exactly where your coming from regarding posting on your own diary,i find it very hard thinking about what to write about these days,.....,i know in the early days you used to not only watch the racing but make "mental" selections, like you i used to make a point of watching the racing (although i didn't make any selections),nowadays i can't be bothered to watch it 90% of the time.......i guess that is a good example of how far we have progressed.

Seano.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the post on my diary mate. Always good to hear from you.

I think it is good that folks continue to post on here as if they are being succesful in their own recovery they must be doing something that may have a beneficial effect on others.

I understand how people cannot wait for the football season. I used to be a referee so really used to enjoy the game. When i see the money that players now get though it makes me feel that the game is not the one I used to love. Millions of pounds a year are paid to some players who by the looks of the new regulations for numbers of players in a squad, will not even have to play to get paid. This means that the mega-rich clubs can afford to pay players so they do not play for the competition--crazy. Also when folks see this kind of money perhaps it encourages them to gamble to try to match their lifestyles. Even local players get fortunes now and it would not surprise me if a lot of clubs go under this season as the spectators vote with their feet as money is getting tighter for the man in the street.

At least the ashes are coming up in the winterand we must have our best chance in years to win on Aussie soil.

All the best

Hi Jeff and thanks for the post on my diary. Please do keep posting and it does have a really positive effect on everyone. I stppoed gambling for over a year and, to be honest, probably got a little complacent - stopped posting, stopped considering myself as a compulsive gambler, started to think I was fully in control and then.........whoosh. Before I knew it - I am gambling and chasing again.

I am not syaing this is going to happen to you but we all should all be aware of how cunning this disease can be. One way to keep continued resistance is to keep posting. So do check in even if just to say "still going strong and gamble free" - you've worked too hard and done so well - keep focused mate.

All the best

Hi Jeff,

I know what you mean about struggling for things to write. You are very important here though, as you have a lot of successful experience to share. I think its one of the things I like best about this forum - you have people at all stages of their recovery. The frightened 'thinking of quitters', the full of fire in their bellies first day quitters, the ones one month on, the ones who have just had their first lapse, those at 6 months free etc. Those who have 6 months + under their belt provide inspiration and a sense of 'it can be done'.

Take care,

f x
