Day 29. Hey Matt, I went to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Was awesome!

To try and fill some time I started doing a degree 18 months ago. I've found that my gambling has massively declined but sometimes when I'm procrastinating over an assignment, it's an easy distraction to gamble. Generally it's a positive move though.

Sorry to hear about your relationship. Is it because of your gambling do you think? Whether directly or indirectly? Does she know about it? Don't let that get in the way of this challenge, you've got to quit gambling for yourself. I sometimes gamble after an argument with my girlfriend. It's definately not worth it.

Day 20, Its the Saturday. Going out soon to meet mates to watch the football. But won't be gambling, will be no doubt see someone bragging about winning something at the bookies. Well good for them, winning is nice. But know as soon I get that bitter taste of losing. I'll be hocked at trying to get that taste for winning back. Vicious cycle!

Hey Stubber, wow sounds like an amazing trip bro. You have a good time? what you get upto? See we don't need gambing to have fun. Tbh compulsive gambling hasn't been an issue for the last 2 years, just lately I've come close to it. Luckily I woke up & smelt the coffee and got my a*s back here. No, gambling wasn't the reason we've broken up. The relationship ended on good terms, just my girlfreind (Now ex i guess lol) was just really busy with college, work, and other commitment to have anytime for us. Sucks! but thats life I guess. hope you're well & well done on 29 days.

Day 23 - Today is a lot better 🙂 Was in a relationship that wasn't good for me, felt really down with guilt having to play the bad guy and end it. But bouncing back! When your down, you want to retreat to a safe place. Normally with us its gambling, but that not an option. Just need to find something else as an outlet in life.

Day 37 - hey mate, sorry not been on for a few days. I tried to message on here a few days ago but it wouldn't post for some reason.

Yeah it was an awesome trip cheers, I'm a travel consultant by trade so I'm lucky that I get to travel a fair amount.

Sorry to hear about your relationship breaking down. I know what you mean about wanting to retreat. You ever thought about learning an instrument or something? Guitar or something like that? Secretly get one, don't tell the lads, learn it and then bang out a few tunes next year. They'll be well confused.

Day 29, had a really good relaxed weekend. Had a birthday meal with family and friends the Friday, was a real morale booster. One more week at work than a long awaited week off. Thankfully no gambling this weekend, but the temptation was there.

Glad you had a great trip Stubber, think how many more great trips you can have without the money wasted on gambling. I've been thinking of learning the guitar since I was a kid, maybe time to put that into action. Been building a gaming pc all year, so hopefully that'll give me a place to retreat once its up and running. You got any great plans for next year?

Day 41, congrats on a month gamble free Matt and happy birthday! Feel like their is more meaning to counting the days on here!

With Xmas break coming up, need to make sure we stay focused. Have you blocked gambling sites from your computer and mobile btw? No post Christmas dinner/slightly boozed up, sneak off for shady gamble. Lol. Standard.

Day 31 - Was just reflecting today why I hate bookies. If we take the gambling out of the equation it really is a depressing enviroment. Not a place thats ever going to be great for socializing, most of the punters in there are disgruntled, unhappy and angry. Most, if not all the staff don't really want to be there. Job a job I know at the end of the day. Theres days I don't want to be in mine. However I always make an effort to be polite & friendly with the customers.

Thanks Stubber, no I haven't used online gambling in 3 years. Just staying away from bookies that is an issue. Can I ask what type of gambling is your poison so to say?

Day 47 - Yeah the bookies are full of zombies! Which we are guilty of being when we're in there lol! The amount of time I've spent playing in those machines in the past is unreal. I've known some staff to be quite good before, with some banter and I was impressed when somebody came over to me to advise me I'd been playing for an hour, did I realise and would I like to have a coffee and take a break from the machine! Only happened once but I was impressed.

How have you been getting on? I'm finding this forum really helpful. Keeping track of the days etc...

My poison has varied over the years, from fruit machines at a young age, to online blackjack, roulette machines at the bookies, football bets and poker.

is yours mainly football? What do you do, massive accas?

Day 39 - This diary is becoming a source of pride for not gambling. Enjoying my week off, giving me a chance to recharge my bacteries and catch up on things.

I'm good thanks Stubber. I've never been offered a coffee in a bookies, thou once was told to calm it down after a heavy bought of gambling. A little football, but mostly horses. Hows you xmas getting on? hope your good.
