Do all the same things that put you in the place where you were fine for 5 months and stick to them. Follow all the routines which work for you. It makes life robotic but you get used to that existence and it means you dont lose all your money.

Plus from what you have said there are other benefits you got as well during abstinence so thats a bonus.

There is no 'absolute limit' for a compulsive gambler. If you dont have deterrents in place (which I believe are only temporary and only work to a degree anyway, if you want to gamble you will find a way) and you still have access to funds and you havent totally learnt to live without gambling which causes you a problem, you will go back to it at some point and eventually lose everything you have and then borrow more when your own money runs out.

Making a promise to yourself means nothing, it is an empty promise.

You will never be cured but you can arrest the problem by doing the right things for you. Best wishes.
