Hi terry, just came across your post saying you lapsed. It sounds like you need to limit your access to money. Is there someone you can trust who can take control of your finances?

Terrylow, good on you for coming this far, especially having control of your finances. I know if my partner still had control we would be in even more of a s*** creek!!

bluescreen wrote: I guess we are causing a bit of a confusion here. 😛 Thanks. It's by far not the best solution, you are absolutely right about that. I am in no way different from your partner when it comes to handling money, and constantly being one step ahead of myself can be difficult and exhausting at the best of times (and irritating for others). Anyways. Looking forward to see some good news from Terry soon. Sorry for derailing your thread, Terry. Won't happen again. 🙂

Haha blue screen, no confusion just me being a dope with names

Hey both!

Thanks so much for commenting on my journey. You haven’t derailed it, I like reading about how others are getting on and what they have done to combat the urges.

The good news is I haven’t gambled since I last slipped up and posted about it a couple of weeks ago.

The bad news is I’ve not been able to get past Captcha on here to update my blog!

I’m not at the desperate stage where I need someone to control my finances yet I don’t think. Would be a huge admission of being out of control and make my life extremely awkward. I do appreciate the advice though.

Buzzing with the England win - and without any money on it!

Cheers for reading.

Hey everyone, it’s been a while!

Sorry I’ve not been able to update, I don’t know if it’s happening for anyone else but from my end the website is on its knees, not only is Captcha giving me issues, the whole site is stripped back with no background just clickable links that takes me back to the 90s.

I’m actually feeling positive at the moment. I have relapsed since I last posted but it’s not all bad so hear me out! Won’t bore you with the details but the old gambler’s favourite “I was going to place a bet on that” long shot resurfaced during the World Cup. Sod’s law it happened and I was feeling really frustrated (I’m sure every single one of us has been there). Unfortunately this stupidly led me down the path to internet cards again but amongst the midst of my first couple hands something magical happened and I came to the realisation this really isn’t what I want to do and I stopped, nothing won, nothing lost. Withdrew the money I had deposited and logged off.

Now I’m sure people will argue that a blanket ban on all sites is much more effective and I should never have been on there in the first place, but it really feels like a realisation that I no longer enjoy gambling at all. I could easily ignore what happened in those 30 seconds and call it over a month gamble free but I’m not going to, I’m starting again and calling it 11 days as I can use the effectiveness of not being taken in by the trance so to speak.

Hope you’ve all had a lovely Tuesday.

All the best,

Terry

Hey bluescreen,

I hope you’re well. Thanks for taking the time to comment, you’re always supportive and offer mature, sound advice,

Sorry I didn’t mean a blanket ban wouldn’t work! It’s definitely the best option - I was just looking at the positives of the situation as I’d already overstepped the mark and gone back to it, albeit for less than a minute.

12 days free! Had a gambling related dream which is very unusual for me, I don’t know if it was because I came on here yesterday evening and that seeped its way into my subconsciousness.

I do have a question for the room and if anyone would be kind enough to offer their expertise that would be great. I’m guessing there will be many people here who will have been restricted financially in their day to day spending after gambling losses (especially in the short term).

I’ve been working out my finances for the next three months trying to budget and whilst my past gambling obviously hadn’t helped, it’s mainly everyday life spends that leaves me facing a fairly bleak situation for the rest of summer into the autumn months. Basically after paying off my credit card, all bills and my car payments I’m left with just pennies until payday in October. Now, I have been on a holiday abroad in June so it’s no breadline sob story but I was just wondering If anyone had any coping mechanisms, inspirational stories, or tips to stay positive? Seems such a grim existence and summer is by far my favourite time of year.

Not after sympathy at all by the way, I’m well aware there’s millions of people in this country worse off than me!
