Day 19 - Been rough today, thanks to Gerry8 for the reply in another thread. I have held firm and not gambled. Last time i played roulette 19 days ago i lost 250 quid in less than an hour, since then i have felt much better, paid off some loan even. My triggers are work and boredom, same for a lot of us i guess. I worry about things before they even happen which doesnt help. Football season coming soon which i cant wait for, no betting though, Lets all beat the bookies by not going in and lets hope they're profits dwindle. I would love to see a big chain of bookies crash. I would celebrate with a nice bottle of plonk. ha ha.

Hi no problem, keep at it you are doing great.

I too had a problem with fobt machines, I got my head around that the machine wants you to lose, it is virtual, you have the odd win but as you know in the long run you lose big time.

Abstain and maintain, chose not to gamble that is key.

Hi no problem,

Before i came onto this site i had no control with them fobt, i spent every pay day on them for a month or so losing all the money i had, Whether i won £200,300 or 600 it would always go back in that day or the next.

I like a football bet and im not addited to them but for the reason that i could not help myself i stopped all forms of gambling.

Like yourself I found the second week and the third week the hardest, i have recently been getting dreams where i have been gambling and before i wake i very disappointed myself, then i wake and im so glad its a dream, it gives me even more fight to carry on the way i am.

keep it mate, your doing well

Hi A86N. its been 36 days since i last played a fobt machine. I have however played football bets though as i dont have an issue with that. i know people will say it has to be all forms of gambling but i disagree, the football bets for me are an enjoyable experience win or lose, i never spend more than ten quid on it either. As for the fobt i would stand their playing them heart racing and red faced and sweating, i would like you say win one day and then either be back in the same day or the next and lose it all. last time i played i lost 250 quid and not once was i in profit and thought no more. i hope i never play them again and their will be challenges along the way. i want to reach my 50 day target then 100 day target and so on. Thanks for the reply.

I fell off the wagon on sunday and had a gamble yesterday on the fobts. I hadnt played for 39 days. i have come away fairly unscathed from this bout of gambling, i reckon 150-200 loss. I had my card back which was a bad idea but have since given it back. what gives me hope is the bigger gaps i am having between falling off the wagon, ive had 43 days, 39 days, 12 days, 5 days and a few days here and their when i havent played fobt. So it is getting less frequent. How do i get the thoughts out of my head though. i have had a lot of holiday from work recently which probably hasnt helped, but i am back tomorrow and want to focus. I can do it.

Your relapses are a lot like mine. You need to think deep down about whether you actually want to stop permanently or whether you're just stopping for the moment but envisage betting again in the future. If you're in the latter category then unfortunately I think you'll keep relapsing. If you are able to become certain that you'll be happy never placing a bet again, and can find something else to replace that little buzz that gambling can occasionally bring, then I'll think you'll succeed sir. Just something to think about. I'm on day 1! for the fifth time but I think now I've finally got my head around losing something that has been a huge part of my life for about 10 years... that's a major deal and no one can say otherwise.
