Hi Canute! BT's parental filters are pretty good an you can set a custom level, so as to allow other types of content which would also be blocked under a pre-configured filter. For example, light bans, P*********y, 'Obscene and Tasteless', 'Hate and Self-harm', Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco and Dating, but allows, Nudity, 'Weapons and Violence', Gambling, Social Networking, 'Fashion and Beauty', File Sharing, Games, Media Streaming, Search Engines and s*x Education.

Trouble is, if it's your account, you can easily gain access and change the settings. Have you heard of or tried K9? I've mentioned it to all and sundry for the last 5 or 6 years and if you can get someone else to run the set-up for you, they can set the password and short of rebuilding your machine, you can't remove it.

No software is free from being subverted, but the effort it would take buys you the time to think clearly and hopefully make the right choice.

Yes...I think you go to settings when logged on to your bt account...it's a specific one for gambling...was very easy to acivate...and yes ideally you need to Get someone to put in a pass word so you can't change it. ..I done mine myself and wouldn't have a clue on password....i think I only had to enter it once so prob just enetered random keys...but not 100 % I've never tried to over ride it ....your all ready paying for it....so may as well use it...

Got the gambling block on the BT account now. Phew! I need to think about what to do with the account now as giving the password to someone else won't be enough if it let's me set a new one.

Looked at K9 and the others but none of them are doing a Linux version. I think i'll email them to see if they have any future plans for it. For now I'll put as many blocks/obstacles in place as possible to give me the max thinking time if I get an urge.

A fitting name I think for this forum. It's futile thinking that someone can control the tide, just like your name sake proved to his coutiers. And, there we go with addictions, deludedly thinking we can control a spin of a wheel or 3 legged horse romping home a winner.

Hi Canute! Didn't realise you were a Linux user. Have you tried DansGuardian? It's not been officially updated for yonks, but that shouldn't matter because it can use content filtering as well as black and white lists. Might be worth a look? Cheers, whatami

Nearing the end of day 8.
Not really thinking about gambling during the day but i think I might be dreaming about it (can't really remember dreams but something has made me restless the last couple of nights). Anyway I can't do much damage in my sleep so i'd rather have it that way round.
Just made sure I had things to occupy my mind. Gazillions of things to learn about on YouTube for free.
Was on call this weekend and got a call which is unusual. Was thinking about a call I got once during a gambling session which peeved me no end when I was forced to stop. Another example of how twisted my mind was as that's what was funding the addiction.

Just checking in on day 11. Not had any real urges so that's good. Friday is pay day so that's when I start paying down the debt seriously. It's circa 25k so it's going to take some time but it will be worth it. Got three credit cards which is completly pointless. Hardly used them for anything other than gambling. I will keep reducing the limits as the balances decrease. Can't spend it if it's not available.
