Ok so I'm now 20 days GF, the temptation has become less and less and I can see things much clearer.
My family mean the world to me and were on the verge of being affected if I carried on the way I was, both financially and emotionally.
So here's to the next phase, another 20 day challenge to continue this journey !!!
Hello United2017,
Well done on starting a recovery diary. In your first entry you are already noting some improvements, as you experience greater clarity and reduced temptation as you remain gambling free for longer, and you touch on how your concern for your family is an important motivation for your recovery
You can use your diary thread to reflect on your recovery, perhaps noting what you're finding helpful or what you're finding challenging, changes that you're making, developments or setbacks or periods of stability... or other content that you find useful to explore here, to help further your progress in recovery from problem gambling. Sometimes the diary can become a record that can help you to identify patterns in your thoughts or behaviours, as you read back over entries and notice similarities and repetitions, for example noticing thoughts or experiences that have repeatedly been a trigger for gambling urges, or that have tended to support your motivation for recovery. Sharing peer support or dialogue in this section can be a way to feel more connected and part of a community of people with shared experiences and aspirations, while the diary can also allow you to elaborate your own thoughts purely for your own self-awareness.
Do feel welcome to post support on the diaries of other forum members, too.
Take care,
Forum admin.
So I've hit 24 days now, no temptation at all since my previous post, focused on my family and all the good in my life and determined to not let either them or myself down.
Need to continue with the same focus and ignore any week moments that may come along.
Onwards and upwards
Hi all,
That's a full 28 days GF done now and I still have moments where I think I wish I could get the money back that I've lost, but I feel so much better in myself.
Having said that I don't miss or get urges to gamble, even with the football season now under way again, must I must keep my guard up as we all know that one slip and you could be straight back to square 1 !!!
Good luck to everyone !!
The first time I've spoken to anyone tonight about my problem, spoke with a good friend, and he's just won a fortune on the casino typically!! It was good to speak to someone in person as well as the help this site has given me and he was very supportive in my goal to get this sorted!
Onwards and upwards !!
Thanks for posting on my diary and congrats on notching up GF days, here's to many more! Take care S:)
Affected by gambling?
