Hey , it's my second day and I have not gambled . After some sole searching I have decided I want to go to counselling as I don't want to start again and feel it would greatly benifit me on my road to recovery . Has anyone else had it and did it work or help ?

I don't think it's possible to go it alone without seeking professional help or is it ?

Hi Wendy,

In answer to your question I believe it's entirely down to the individual and their unique circumstances as to exactly how much support they need. If you feel you need to see a counsellor then it is probably right that you do so, I think it's a good move if in only to help you break the cycle and to reflect in the first stages of recovery - my circumstances are different and they dictate that I do this alone -I would prefer to go to counselling and to be able to talk to people in the outside world about the turmoil of gambling addiction and I think the support you would receive from being able to be open in this way would definitely help recovery -for some of us (me included) this just isn't an option but if it is for you I would say grab the opportunity with both hands and go for it! -I empathise deeply with your situation I know where you are now and I can honestly tell you the best thing I did was registering here -to be among people who understand you, will not judge you and are there to offer you support when you need it was a breath of fresh air for me -im far from out of the woods yet but I'm in a much much better place for joining here, I think being here plus in your case as you say going to counselling would be the absolute best course of action. Well done for joining up and good luck with your recovery -keep posting on your diary, and remember you are among friends now, among people who understand compulsive gambling for what it is as we have lived it too - if you feel low or you feel the old urges coming back -come here, rather than heading for the slots or the bingo hall and talk it out -I wish you the very best.
