What's happening people, so day one today without going into the bookies, only because I've got no money in my pocket. I'm Daniel and new to this so let me give you my story, it all started when I my mum went to the bookies one day and she asked me to come, I watched her play on the roulette on the machine (FOBTS), I decided to have a little go my self and I used £20 and I put £3 on number 7 and it come in, I didn't know how much it was worth till I saw £108 on the machine. I couldn't believe it, it seemed like it could be easy money but it couldn't be further from the truth. I get paid weekly and found myself every Friday the moment I get paid going in the bookies and it just took it, week in and week out. I went to Barcelona just after and when I came back I seemed to have laid of it, but then one day I was bored at work and just been paid £300 so I thought let's have a little go and see if we can win something and once again I lost it. The following week tho everything changed I had just been paid yet again but this time my luck was in, I managed to get it up on the roulette matching to a £1000, I remember coming home and just having it laid out on the floor after counting it and thinking of all the things I could do with it, from that moment I was yet to realise what I was about to put my self thorough and the only way to describe it is hell. After winning that money I went in the next day and lost it all every since then I've been pumping the machine every week with my wages trying to get that money back. Last week Tuesday I finally managed to get a result and I had won £1000 again however once again the next day I put it all back in. I took a payday loan out so I had some money and my intentions were to do the right thing however I used the money again to try and win the money back but I lost. My brother helped me out and with a little bit of savings and some money he had I still managed to buy a nice car but because of my debts now with the payday loan company and with my brothers debt I decided to sell it, I paid my brother back and was meant to pay the loan company back however I went in the bookies with £2000 and lost the lot the machine was going up and down I just couldn't get nothing out of it, in the end I went down to my last £100 and then just managed to get get a number on the roulette and it gave me some money so I kept going thinking I'd get my money back however in the end it took it all. I feel like I've lost everything through this place and feel as though I'm working for nothing. I need to get back on track it's going to be hard tho I have so much debt to sort out, I just don't know we're to start. My brother said I could buy he's car of him next year for £4000 but he don't realise the mess I've got myself into and all he keeps going on about is me buying this car next year. Don't know how to tell him because I've already blown my last lost of money which he knows about and the whole point of me selling my own car was to sort my debts and I couldn't even do that. I guess we all have to start somewhere tho??? My first day today without gambling and although I feel tempted to borrow some money to play the roulette I have to remind myself that it can go two ways I can either make it harder for myself or easier and the only way things get easier is by making the right decisions.
Hi Daniel_dee94,
Welcome to the Forum,
I am sorry to hear that you lost your money from your car sale that was meant to help you recover your debt. However, on the positive side this situation has made you think carefully about your gambling. I hope you realise at this point that you will not get your money back and as long as you gamble you will keep spending money, even if you sometimes win. It is important that you understand that gambling is a form of entertainment that you pay for therefore, the more you play, the more you pay.
If you feel your debt is unmanageable it’s worth contacting a financial advisor. There are agencies like Step Change that provide free and confidential advice.
If you are struggling with urges to gamble, I would suggest that you get in touch with our services. You may contact us either by calling the Helpline or through the Netline. We offer advice and emotional support and we can help you arrange counselling treatment.
I hope you also get feedback on your post by other members here, so keep using this space. It does help to share the problem with others.
Best wishes,
