I'm 11 months clean. I know I'm still in recovery , and I still get urges (although I am now much better equipped to handle them).
After multiple attempts at stopping which failed the catalyst was telling my partner, and then a few months later some close friends. People are likely to support you if you are honest. It may feel impossible, but it's doable.
When you get an urge try and wait for 5 minutes. Think about what the consequences are, and how terrible you nearly always feel after a binge. Use the shame and anger and guilt to stop you wanting to experience all those feelings again.
Thank you for your wise words dot and well done on 11 months x
Hi dot83,
Well done for abstaining for 11month! It’s also good news to read that you now feel better equipped to handle your urges.
We’re all aware it’s difficult but, it’s also manageable and doable if you try harder, and that’s exactly what you’re doing now.
I tell you what, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, so never look back!
Best wishes,
Beatrice
