I was a gambler from as long as I can remember, my dad took me to race tracks to gamble from before I was 10 years old. As I grew older I gambled more, and on everything, £50 on a virtual race was common, roulette took the rest as i could gamble 16 hours a day easy. It came to a head when I lost all the families holiday spending money the day before we left, i had £10 left of a 10k overdraft. I stopped that day and attended GA, told the banks that every hard luck story i had cried out was a lie, i told all my family and friends that i was an addict and could never gamble again. That really hurt my elderly mum. From 10 September 2011 I have stayed gambling free, through the death of my wife, my parents and my brother I have stayed strong. Today, all my debts are paid off, I managed to keep my home, and I am now mortgage free due to my new life. I am remarried and am as happy as I have ever been. GA and self awareness saved my life. One day at a time still is my mantra.
That’s fantastic well done I’ve been gamble free since 29th July this year been really tough after gambling all my adult life I’m now 52 so days harder than others your an inspirational person to show it can be done thank you
@carly1holly2 brilliant news that you are also gamble free. We are all in this together, through thick and thin. The support on offer is second to none, keep it going.
Thank you for sharing this. This has really touched me as I hope for a normal future. Well done you should be so proud of yourself.
You must have saved a fortune in those years
@tazman lol, paid back a fortune more like.
Cleared a massive overdraft caused by gambling. Paid off credit cards maxed out by gambling, two of them alone were 25k.
Paid back bank loans taken out to fund gambling, my mortgage was reduced to interest only because I told the bank another lie, I was heading towards repossession so I needed to start overpaying on this. At one point my outgoings were 1k a month more than my income and I still gambled by borrowing, sometimes losing insane amounts every day. I was in a professional, really well paying job, responsible for hundreds of people and I couldn't afford to feed myself. I am now retired from that job, but just managed to clear my debts before my salary ended. Without gambling I would not need to earn any extra money now, I would have sat back and enjoyed life, but i still have to find extra income to afford nice things. But at least I'm happy in life.
your in similar situation has another guy on here he was a gambling addict however things changed for the better he quit and started his own business and now became a self made millionaire if he never stopped gambling this would never have happened, his story hit me as how many people could have had a different life if it wasent for gambling as it not cost finanically it also cost time
Affected by gambling?
