When i joined this forum i was a total mess, thought i'd never quit gambling........Now i have been clean for 4 years and intend making it many many more years without a gamble.

Honesty with yourself and those around you, realistic barriers, getting relevant support either through gp or counselling, let someone you trust take control of your finances, restricting the amount of cash you have daily, barring yourself from all gambling establishments and putting blocks on online gambling. These are just a few simple steps i used, far from simple on those dark early days of recovery.

The sentence below was the step which finally made me turn my life around.

If you have family, carry photo,s when the urge comes look at them and think to yourself, WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT????????

My sons are priority number 1 not gambling!!!

Hi ands,

I like this sentence very much "if you have family, carry photo,s when the urge comes look at them and think to yourself, WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT" ???????? I am doing this even if it's just for my 2 sons as my wife says it's all over this time, but I will fight to be a full family again and can only hope !!!

Ands

Congrats on the 4 gf years and many more. It is so important that you took the time to come back on here and let everyone know how you are doing and the steps you have taken to be gfree. I hope everyone on here reads your post and latches on to that positive vibe that it is possible to turn your life around. What a brilliant idea to carry a photo of family or partner to remind someone of why they should persevere to be gfree. Good luck.
