Gamstop did not work to a UK casino

Hello,

I am a recovering gambler and I have signed up to gamstop in the past 5 months and have gamban on my computer at home. Unfortunately I was able to sign up to a UK casino and deposited and lost a lot of money. I understand it was my fault but is there any reason I was able to sign up to this casino. I dont want to say the casino name in case anyone else can see it but in the terms and conditions it does state you HAVE to be a united kingdom resident and it does have a section in regards to problem gambling.

I did not sign up using any other details which is different than I signed up to gamban for. Same email, phone number, address. Am I always going to have the possibility of registering to a UK casino? I know a few with no licenses to the UK will do this but I thought the UK companies should be unable to do this?

Does the casino have a UK Gambling Commission license? If so it should be now registered with Gamstop. I should start by contacting the casino customer support and ask them to clarify.

Yes it does run under a UKGC gambling license. I have reached out to them and all they have done is closed my account with no possibility of a refund. I asked them about gamstop and they have stated they will get gamstop but did not state when. This website has no sister sites but it is especially dangerous for problem gamblers as someone could fail the same way I have done with no possibility of money back

Report them to both the Gambling Commission and to Gamstop. If this is a condition of their license, (as per Gamstop they should all have signed up by last year) they may be hit with a massive fine which will make them and others think twice about saying “we’re planning to maybe sign up to it someday if it suits us” again.

100% please report them to the Gambling Commision with any evidence you have such as emails.

If they are a UK based casino they should have signed upto Gamstop by the end of last year. It is not a voluntary thing, they have to as part of their licence agreement to operate in the UK. At the very least they should be fined (hopefully a big one). Would be nice to see them lose their licence.

The operators who play within the rules are bad enough, the ones who can't even bothered to act legally to try and help protect problem gamblers really are disgrace.

Thank you for not sharing their name for obvious reasons - one part of me would like to know their name so I could also complain to GC but obviously that information in my hands would be extremely risky.

I have just had the same situation occur, is it a worth complaining? what would be the best way to go around it? they say that they carried out responsible gambling check in a way of two emails asking if i was in control, i feel that it is not enough of a check.

Was it a UK online casino with a UKGC licence number (they usually state them at the bottom of their website) and are you signed up to Gamstop with exactly the same details (name, address, DOB, email etc) as you signed into the online casino?

If yes to both then you should report them to the Gambling Commission as complying with Gamstop registrations should be part of their licence agreement.  You may not get your money back as you did make the decision to gamble yourself but the GC can take action to take their licence away if they persist in breaking the terms of it.

They are licenced under the ukgc. and yes the same details but they say that they dont have to be with gamstop. im going to complain to the GC as soon  as possible.

Well they replied with email saying that is is only best practice to sing up and not a necessity, they also say that they are a new casino, but they have been established since early  2018.
