The 12 steps

I'm not best placed to answer this as I'm still on Step 1 but I've dipped into some of the later ones in meetings & basically, it feels like a structure. I didn't realise it @ the time, I don't accept it now but I had quite a chaotic upbringing & whilst I very much know right from wrong & how to mind my P's & Q's, I didn't have much guidance. The 12 Step program feels like a foundation for my life, helping me identify & manage my character flaws. It may sound a little crazy but the program feels like something I've been given that can't be taken away, something constant that is always there for me. There'll be some psychology behind that probably relating to death but it matters not why I feel connected, just that I do.

I wonder if your divided opinions are from the same set of people because people I have met actually working the recovery program the way it is set out swear by them. The people in my group that have been lackadaisical in their approach, whizzed through them quickly looking for a quick cure, got to step 12 & given themselves a huge pat on the back but not stayed focused have relapsed & are back now saying, they didn't give them their all, their honesty. They're not blaming the Steps for their relapse rather their approach to them.

I can't explain the practicalities but I hope this is of some use?
