Hi,

I have come on here in hope of some guidance with my boyfriends gambling. We have been together for 6 years and gambling has been an on/off problem for the past 4 years. I know when he has been gambling or feels the urge to gamble as he becomes stressed, lies, distant, moody and s*x life goes down to zero.

At the moment I have hit rock bottom and can only think of two things too stay with him and support him or walk out and leave everything.

I love him with all my heart but slowly its destroying us he gambles his pay, he's taken money off his parents and if he could he would take my money.

We are currently living together but I live a stressful life of keeping money together, he has told me that he now wants to start a family and he thinks that this will change him. I don't believe this for one moment and feel lonely and alone. Could any one give me some guidance on how to work this?

hi hannah,

I am a CG and i have 2 young children. i have been gambling for 7 years now and having children didnt stop me, nothing did until 45 days ago i choose to make the change for myself and my family, i have tried to "stop" many times before but was this time when i actually took the steps that are necessary to do so.

I would have to agree with half-life in saying that bringing a child into this would only make things that much harder, as a mother if my own children didnt stop me they more than likely wont stop him. He truly has to be ready to do this himself no matter how many demands, incentives or ultimatums he is given but please dont think that he doesnt love you because he gambles though as i love my partner dearly always have always will but i still continued until i made the choice to stop.

I hope you find some peace lovely.

Jess
