Hi everyone, my name is Anna. I've been with my husband for 9 years. I always new he liked to bet on football, sometimes on horse racing even I was betting with him once a week, Saturday was the betting day. I didn't know he got problems. A few days ago and I don't know why I opened he's post he wasn't at home and I new it's probably bank statement from credit card and it was. I was shocked -£5000, and at this time I though someone was usuing our card because should be nothing there. I called my husband and he admitted and he said "sorry I have gambling problem". Next day I asked about his second credit card and another -£5000 and the worst thing is he spend our son saving money as well. He said he is happy I found out, he didn't know how to tell me and he believed he can sort out money problems by himself which probably was to bet more and hoped for big win. Now I don't know what to do he doesn't want me to tell his parents or anyone. I'm originally from Poland, I don't have anyone here. I would like to tell his parents and our close friends but I don't want to go behind his back. Please help me I'm so lost and I don't know how to deal with everything
Hi Anna you have done the best thing and are seeking help. Call gamcare and they will help you. Is your husband willing to stop? I would cancel credit cards. open all the post. He needs to sort out repayments. GA is a good place to go, you can go to gamanon meeting too, usually same day and place just different rooms. Don't have joint accounts, keep your money separate and safe. Take his details off any savings accounts. I hope he's willing to stop, keep an eye on all accounts from today. My husband has no money, just cash I give him and he gets a receipt. I hope it's not worse than you've already found. Call the helpline, good luck!
