I notice that non-uk registered gambling sites, use the Gamcare logo. I was thinking....

Do these sites have to go through a process in order to use your logo?? Does gamcare have any say over this process and if not do they report these gambling sites to the Uk licensing authorities??

As I have been reading, people get suckered into thinking that because the gamcare logo is on the site that this somehow gives the gambling site some respectability and responsibility... but it doesn't..

...the reality is that these sites are simply exploiting addicted and vulnerable customers whom have already tried to exclude themselves from online gambling by signing up to Gamstop

Does gamcare have a view on this?

I suppose on balance its better that these unregulated sites have your logo than don't have your logo. I just hope that you get some money out of them first.

It annoys that its NOT a requirement by law for all casino's operating to a Uk audience to be registered with the gambling commission and hence signed up to Gamstop.

Gamstop is such a useful tool but alas all that seems to be happening now is that the internet is becoming awash with "non-gamstop" casino's. What were people thinking when they decided NOT to make it all mandatory... its stupidity in the extreme and no doubt driven by powerful forces in the gambling industry and money.

Government is supposed to protect its citizens from harm.. but it doesn't really does it,  not if revenue streams are at threat. Its the same with smoking... does government really think that people will stop smoking just because they are in a locked cupboard in shops. Keep the citizen addicted to as many things as possible... its good for buisness.

Hi there,  thank you for your feedback.

We do not usually supply our regular logo for gambling companies – GamCare has a specific ‘Problem Gambling Support’ logo for companies to use if they wish to signpost to our support services, and they do have to sign a conditions of use agreement before we supply this.

This logo is not designed to endorse any of the companies who use it, simply to link through to our services for those who may need them.

Some companies may also be permitted to display our Safer Gambling Standard logo, if they have completed our accreditation process in the last two years (these will be companies with a valid UK license).

Please note that any other versions of our logo are not legitimate, and yes we do follow up with companies where we find an illegitimate use of our logo(s) to correct these.

I hope this information is helpful.

Yes the information was helpful. Am tempted to send you a list of online casino's not registered in the uk and not on gamstop so you can then see if they are legitimately using your logo's.

Anyway thanks for the reply.

It really annoys me that foreign online casino's are NOT required by LAW to abide by Uk rules and regulations. Sometimes the nanny state is appropriate in my opinion.

The below is part of a reply I received from the gambling commission...

Regarding online casinos not registered with the Commission, any online casino that does not hold a licence with us would not be following the rules and regulations set out by us. Therefore most unregulated online casinos will not be registered with Gamstop and will not prevent a individuals registered with Gamstop from creating an account. All operators that hold a licence with us for gambling will be required to register with Gamstop.

Please be advised however that any online casino who offers their services to consumers based in Great Britain, is required to hold a licence with us. It is illegal to offer or advertise services to GB consumers without the relevant gambling licence.

Therefore folks, if your registered with Gamstop but come across an online casino you can still gamble at, then report them... cos they are breaking the law!
