Hi Admin, the idea of a discussion/debating thread was suggested on somene's diary and I was wondering if that's a possibility? The sharing of ideas and different viewpoints can be very beneficial but when it happens on individual diaries it tends to get lost in the bigger mix of things. Strict guidelines about being respectful etc. would have to be agreed (and hopefully we're all grown adults so it wouldn't get too heated) but I would appreciate it if that's something you could consider. Thanks in advance. LifeBegins x

Hello there,

Thank you for your suggestion. We can certainly consider having a Discussion / Debate section in the Forum as an idea. However, we would need to discuss it and decide commonly.

Best wishes,

Forum Admin

Hi LB,

Just wondering if you, (and others who are interested) could let us know the kind of topics you see being debated? Just so we know what kind of area this would be and how we could promote it.

Thanks

Rebecca

That's a lot of ideas Dan. And yes, I'm sure you've got more! I can't tell whether you're being completely genuine or if you're trying to make a point that these are all things we "should" be addressing and that we aren't? There's certainly some good suggestions in there but towards the end of the list the topics become quite ga in focus...and as you know not everyone attends ga or is au fait with ga so that might need to be reigned in

Thanks LifeBegins, day@atime, Dean0 and Samson, for these ideas for topics for discussion.

Management are considering the suggestion of a forum section dedicated to debates. In the meantime, if there is a particular topic that you would especially like to discuss with other forum members, one way to get a conversation started could be to start a thread in the 'Overcoming problem gambling' section of the forum. Another way might be to bring the topic to a chat room.

Thanks again for your creative ideas.

Forum Admin.

Thanks all for the comments on this thread. We are happy to give a debate section a trial and will create one. However, when contributing to it please remember the forum rules apply of respecting the opinions of others. Also please can we keep to topics on the theme of problem gambling recovery, as per the focus of the forum. The section will be taken down if it descends into arguments between members that we feel are taking away from the focus of recovery.

Samson, in response to you I'd say that our staff are there to facilitate the chat and forum and not to lead it. This is done on purpose to allow members to shape the space for themselves and talk about what matters to them. As far as I can see the chat and forum are well attended and people get a lot out of using both the spaces. We will be introducing some more themed chatrooms soon. Also I'd say that our staff do an excellent and often difficult job, both here and on our other frontline services, and provide a lot of help to a lot of people.

Thank you for adding the new section. I'm sure it will be a great success!

Also I want to give a thank you to all the chat moderator's who I think do a great job.
Listening to me for an hour a day over the last twelve months they deserve medals.

As they say not all heroes wear capes!

Thanks again
