OK I just want to get something off my chest and I would like to say initially that I understand that this, that and the other forum (whatever) need to be moderated or there would be murder. As a recovering CG in my EARLY days I listen as best as I can and sometimes and I'm totally aware of it I have over reacted inappropriately to certain posts. These issues whether it is your partner or you are extremely emotive and I understand how sensitive some people are and I totally respect that whatever side of the road you are on so I'm not trying to be provocative.

This is my issue - I've never seen a kid using an FOBT or putting a bet on x,y,z at Newmarket. Maybe children look at the site - have no idea - but why can't we as adults using the forum use the f-word or the word beginning with C which means "rubbish" not the other other nasty C word which I hate? I mean are we all going to get over our self-revulsion, self-disgust or mistrust from our partners without using any swear words at all? I'm certainly aware of some of the word my wife said to me and rightly so. I think my main point and I'm sorry if I'm waffling but the trolls who use this forum for sport or for a laugh can't be spoken to in an expletive way when they are mocking recovering CGs or partners? Is part of recovery having to be in control of your temper 24/7? I'm sorry but specific people have upset me so much the way they treat the forum as a joke and find sneaky ways to take the pee out of people. Yes I need to concentrate on my own recovery but I want to say certain words to some of these jokers who write garbage, get loads of attention and don't give a toss. I really wanted to get this off my chest and I know it isn't going to change forum rules which is fair enough but d**n these trolls make me angry. Recovery - whatever path you choose and are serious about it - is not a joke. For some people it is literally a matter of life or death. Anyway another bet-free day. Thanks for reading my "rant". All the best Phil.

Your a c**t, he's a c**t, everyone's a c**t, yet not as bigger c**t as I. ...

I think if you need to use a swear word to emphasise a point, well c**t gets the message across.

Just my view also

I agree but this is a forum for adults so why I should have to say **** instead of another word which is actually not the f word and not even that offensive? I sometimes feel the moderators treat us like 6 year olds!

The swearing is offensive. Fair enough to moderate it.

Dear Phil and others

We understand that you are aware of the forum rules so probably don't need them repeated here. But you seem to be frustrated that certain of the forum rules are there at all, so maybe it will help if we explain the reasoning behind them.

We don't allow 'obscene' posts, and that includes obscene language. This is an open forum, viewable by anyone whether they are a registered member or not. We want the forum to remain welcoming to everyone, members and non-members, and obscene language is offensive to many.

You say you are frustrated because you feel you want to say some of these words to certain forum users who you feel are not taking recovery seriously and who are mocking other forum users. It is frustrating when you want someone to embrace recovery and you feel they are not doing so. This is what family and friends of compulsive gamblers go through every day. You cannot change another person's behaviour, only your response to it. How you choose to respond can help you towards your own recovery and peace of mind, or it can leave you feeling more frustrated. As we've said before, for the sake of your own recovery, it might be better for you to ignore certain diaries on the forum, as continuing to read and post on them seems to only make you more frustrated.

Also, and this is a very important point, you say you want to say these words 'to some of those jokers'. When you direct obscene comments at another individual on the forum, this is cyberbullying and we have a zero tolerance policy to this.

I hope this helps you all understand why we censor certain words. It is part of a range of tools we use to keep the forum welcoming and supportive.

Kind regards

Forum Admin.

OK I get it. I certainly don't want to be a "cyber-bully".

Hi forum,

I totally agree with the forum regulators. We are all adults and swearing is unnecessary.

Also cyber - bullying has no place in todays world.

Hey can I just clarify I wasn't going to swear at any individiual. It was basically an overall view of saying certain words. I get it though. BW Phil
