Disappointed with the content threads of "New Beginnings" - Recovery Diaries 8.8.16. Very negative vibes for newcomers and others trying so hard to get their lives back on track. The majority of people on here are on here to achieve that good life and most of them end up helping others as well. Hope you do not mind me bringing this to your attention but it is important that people feel they can come on here and feel they have done the best thing.

Hi,

Unfortunately the issues you have described occur many times in the forum and the individual in questions actions have led to many being moderated on the site.

Many pieces of help and advice have been offered to the individual over a long period of time. Have a read through the diary if you doubt me.

However if he continues to mock people, be sarcastic, downright lie and make no effort in recovery what do we all expect.

I personally dont think he is a gambler

Gamparentanon...I hear what your saying about New comers. ...I'm doing my best to support a young mum right now who's in a bad place with boyfriend being the gambler. ...she could really do with support from someone on your side of the fence...knowones bothered with that post yet !
So I'm just talking to her as a mum !. ..but least she feels someone's listening !

I'm @ a loss as to how a supposedly moderated poster (although now he has stopped simply editing his posts, I guess his moderation may have been lifted) is allowed to suggest that anyone not following his apalling lead go & gamble.

Sadly, whilst he is allowed to continue baiting us, people will contine to post & keep his diary alive.

I haven't posted for some time but feel compelled to write.

i stopped my diary when I reached a year but I still read diaries to get strength as others continue in their recovery.

I have followed the new beginning thread since it started and like many others, I have offered advice and support only to have it thrown back in my face. I eventually took the decision not to post on that diary.

Having looked at the updates this morning I am appalled how he is allowed to continue to post. my question is simple - how many posts have been written is frustration, how many people have been made angry by toad?

This is a forum where people share and support recovery - in my opinion, toad is a massive distraction for many and I genuinly believe he has a detrimental effect on some of the posters on here. He saps energy and good will which could (and should) be spent on those who value the support.

Please admin - take a look at the amount of time and effort being wasted talking about him and then take the step needed to help the majority before toad " wins " and becomes the absolute centre of attention as he will be the only person on here.

Totally agree with all the above posts , He seems to get away with anything he wishes to , yet one of us dare speak badly about him or complain it's our posts that are moderated or removed just as mine was earlier !!.

About time to wake up and smell the Rat not the Toad admin ??????.

Dear all,

Thank you for your feedback, it has been passed on to management so that they can review what is happening.

In the meantime, please remember that you are responsible for what you post, and if you repeatedly breach the forum rules then we may need to place your account on moderation. You should all be aware that personal insults are not allowed on the forum. If you feel it is important for you to provide feedback to another user, then do so constructively and sensitively, about their behaviour and not their personality. It is not within the spirit of the forum etiquette to make hostile derogatory remarks about the mental health of another user. If you feel a post is inappropriate, please flag it up for forum admin to check. If you have comments to make about the way another forum user operates on the forum, or the way the forum is moderated, please email forumadmin@gamcare.org.uk

Regards,

Forum Admin.

Think you misread Adam. I didnt anywhere say he should be sectioned. I merely pointed out that as he wanted the record changed around time money location & has failed to commit to GA or pretty much anything, he had other options such as sectioning himself for residential rehab, a legitimate recovery module.

Dear Forum Members,

Thank you for flagging up your concerns about this thread. We don't talk publically about decisions made on user accounts as this wouldnt be fair, but we are in conversation with the user concerned about his account and manner of posting.

We don't ignore users' concerns on this matter, please be assured of that. And we understand that it is important for people to feel that the forum is a safe and genuine place to be.

But please also understand from our point of view that banning a user from using their account is a big step and not one that we take lightly here. In the recent past there have been several arguments on the forum usually ending in us being asked to ban or block users from here, but generally we feel it is best to try and help people use the space constructively, rather than telling them to leave. Of course sometimes there is no other option, but generally we take that as a last resort. Its a difficult balance that we are trying to hold - we may not always get it right as quickly as people would like, but the good intention is there.

Also, we feel it's important that if people find other forum members frustrating, which often happens, they don't respond with abuse. This is why other posts have been edited this week. We have always had diaries on here where the person continually relapses, or doesn't follow advice, and we can't ban people from using the forum because of it. However, we understand there is a difference between this and someone who uses the forum as a way of winding up other members' efforts, but it can take time to identify this and address it.

I hope this goes some way towards addressing the concerns that have been raised recently.

Best wishes

Rebecca

Dear Forum Admin,

There appears to be similar behaviour on another thread that has recently started in the Diaries section. Will this receive your attention?

Hello anon ad,

We have noticed that you have been posting entries with single letters. You have mentioned on this thread that at times in the past you faced a struggle with your mental health. If you are finding that your mental health is currently making it difficult for you to communicate on the forum, please do see your GP so they can look into how you're faring and what additional support locally could make your experience easier for you.

Take care,
