Dear Forum members,
The admin team have been receiving a lot of requests recently asking us to remove people's accounts and all their posts from the site. Whilst we have actioned this in the past, following some user feedback and a review of our policy here, we have decided we will no longer offer this on request. There may be exceptions to this, for example if a person's identity here has been compromised and their safety is at risk. Having done some research on other forums, this brings us in line with best practice.
The main reason for this is that if we delete a person's account and all their posts, we are also deleting comments made by other people on those threads due to the structure of the forum. Having reflected on this we do not feel this is fair on members who take time to contribute to other people's threads and diaries who also lost their content.
Members will still be free to 'edit' their own individual posts and remove their own content in a post as they wish, as we have currently. We also have the facility to 'lock' a person's diary, so it can no longer be added to by anyone.
If members wish to leave the site for good, we can remove their account name if they wish, and their posts will be named 'anonymous'.
Many thanks,
Rebecca
