Hi,
Dont know where to start really. Thought i had my gambling under control for a while but it has started to get out of control and i need help before i lose everything. As always it starts off with a small bet untill it loses then i start to chase (never works). I thought banning myself from all Bookmakers in my town would help but tbh its easier to lose more online.
Thanks.
Same situation as me really. Happened to me last weekend and lost £2k ( all I've won in last 3 months) Really struggled this week and yesterday was tough as wanted to bet so bad. In the end I self excluded and set deposit limits to get restrictions in place. Its difficult and it hurts. I think its easy to win back but can't afford to mentally be on this slippery slope again. Have you got anymore detail on your situation. I was reading a post yesterday about looking at the loss over 12- 18 months and then saving to get it back. That's going to be my way forward and having a very tight month in March to limit outings. I also had a fishing holiday planned in May and had £300 left to pay. I've cancelled it this weekend. There has to be consequences !!
Hi, im honestly close to giving up with everything mate. I need to end it now before i lose everything. I can save easily for 3-4 weeks but can also lose it it 2-3 hours. Im self excluded from all shops and i have programmes installed on my imac to block gaming sites. Hopefully this is the start of my recovery
Hi Peddie101.
Yes you really need to stop completely now. Is there anybody close you can talk to?
Your main factor in beating this is honesty and a new sense of open feeling in discussing it.
willpower alone will not do it to start with so walk in and make sure those blocks are on. Ask your family for support if possible. Hand over your gadgets because if they are tempting you online you need to counter that. It would be best if someone monitors your finances and gives you an allowance.
Its a serious addiction so dont worry about having to prove yourself again. willpower is not enough without help from other people. Please dont forget that and reach out for other people to help
Go and see the doctor for a chat...just tell them how you feel...they are there to help.
Im telling you that not gambling is a much better feeling. Over time you will start to realise how ill you were. It is a form of mental illness where the mind controls the body.
I wish you all the very best
Cheers joydivider, Have help from family members which is good. feel much better already today knowing i have blocks in place on my computer and phone and also the self exclusions from bookies in town. only day 1 so im not getting over excited but i can do this.
I was on day one 53 days ago. I struggled to believe I could go without gambling but here I am 53 days of gambling free. Half my battle was believing I can do it. So please believe you can do it and your half way to becoming gamble free
Cheers steve, all feedback is much appreciated. Well done on 53 days so far, heres to another 53. Best of luck pal.
Hi, I'm back here after a couple of years. Started doing some small horse racing accumulators. Lost 1200 yesterday chasing a relatively small amount. Realised that I can't bet for fun and that it always ends the same. Careful at first then it slowly spirals out of control. I have now excluded from betting sites, unsubscibed from tipping sites and deleted betting apps.
Going to give cash card to wife and get a small allowance. Change my routines as they all revolve around the pub on a Saturday talking about and watching horse racing and studying paper and tips for my betting.
As long as I stop now then 1200 is not the end of the world. I have taken a loan out and will clear it as soon as possible.
Good luck to you and everyone struggling with this addiction.
Gav
