Im 19 and from 18 i started doing small sports bets in the bookies and maybe 2 or 3 pounds on roulette, it wasn't an issue. But over time i have spent more on the roulette machines and although i enjoy betting on mainly football, i find myself dragged into the machines.

I see other people win big most times im in there, and try to replicate this but dont have the funds to back this up and just end up losing.

My town has 4 bookies all in walking distance and i end up going in them every time i go to the pub, gym or just the supermarket

I want to kick this habbit before it gets worse and end up blowing all my student loan and part time wages on silly machines.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Self exclude yourself from all the bookies.. Thing about the football bets is you still have to enter to place the bet. And it's on the way out them bloody fobt machine start to call. I've signed up today as I need seriously help before it destroys my life anymore.. Hope you get sorted mate

Hi ianmc.

Trust me the vast majority of people you see arent winning. They all have their fancy stories but often let slip that they have fed hundreds and thousands of pounds in to get anything back, if at all.

Its a false and distrustful atmosphere and Ive seen some sights last year that I never want to see again. The truth is no gambler really likes some stranger beside them winning. I also dont like hearing all the banter with the shop staff like they are on your side in any way. They want all of your money and you want all of theirs.

Ive seen it all from people bashing the machines to telling me stories that just arent true. One guy was saying Im off to the airport now on my holidays. An hour later I returned and he came back in...some holiday! Thats just one example. Many gamblers enter this story dreamworld to cover that they are nothing but hopeless addicts. Deep down they know its sad and wrong but the addiction helps invent a false front. Its complex control of the mind to get their dopamine highs from gambling.

I had one young woman telling me she is now spending her rent money like shes crying out for help. I tried to say take it easy but she wasnt acting on any advice. To be quite honest it looked as though she had given up on life itself. One guy was walking round in circles waving his money in the air and announcing he was losing thousands. He then returned to the machine fed some more money in and repeated the cycle of wailing and gambling more. Even the cashier came over and they dont often do that.

I dont ever want to be in those places again and I have now self excluded. If you carry on gambling you will end up like those people. Heck I was turning into those people.

Get the photographs and walk in with pride saying I dont want to gamble in here any more and must be escorted out if seen entering. Gambling is no life and you may need some counselling. You must stop now. Please talk to gamcare on a one to one basis.

All the best

Never seen a better posted thread regarding the evil FOTB's, they will bleed your every last penny, because once you start you cannot stop, why are there so many bookies shops in our towns now ?????????????????? because they take money off everyone who walks in especially FOTB users. They should be burnt every single one of them from John o'Groats to Lands End. Great post joyrider

I agree evil them fobt even restricting the 50 quid stake is a load of c**P because you just go to the counter and they load or if you have a special card too can use it to play £100 stakes. I've gambled loads I've been up and lost it all when I could have left. My worst memory was winning just shy of 10k from 500 quid results at the casino. Result right? If only that very same week I lost the lost. I think I managed to spend all of 200 quid the rest all went back. I was doing 1k spins on the roulette table lost 5k in less than 1hr. The next day I went to the bookies with 2k playing 3 fobt at one time. This is going back 4 years now I have clalmed down loads up until November last year when I had a big massive relaps. I had 1800 in my online betting account I won it from £100 I was going up and down I wanted to get to 2k and then quit. The long and short of it I ended up doing a 1700 quid spin lost the whole other thinking I will hit a nice number I lost the lot. Since then I've been gambling a lot and again messed up this week.
