My wife found my credit card statement this weekend, littered with deposits to various gambling sites. We spoke about it for a bit, I came clean and admitted I had a problem. she was understandably furious and we haven't spoken for a few days.

I really want to talk to her about this but not sure how to approach it. "It's not that bad, only a few grand" doesn't seem wise.

I have contacted a few places for help, excluded myself from all sites (that I wasn't already excluded from), cut up my credit cards and transferred my cards to one account to pay it off.

Can anyone help me start to repair the damage and find a way out of this please?

Show her you've self excluded permanently from all your accounts, ask her to set a password for blockers on all the devices you use to gamble, give her control of the finances including access to your credit reports, basically anything you can do to reassure her there's nothing more hidden and that you're not going to cause any further financial damage. Alongside that take any angry outbursts on the chin, answer everything she asks honestly and patiently even if you think you've already covered it and don't ask or expect her to trust you round money for a very long time to come if ever. Look into GA meetings and counselling so you can identify and address whatever is driving the compulsion and yes, definitely don't be flippant.

Action will speak louder than words at this point. Show her you mean business.

Thank you for the reply. Started talking about it, she's understandably furious and I have a lot of work to do. I'm so relieved it's out in the open.
