my gambling addiction is out of control. I haven't told my friends or family about it. I'm ashamed. I'm ok through the month, but on payday I deposit all of my pay cheque in casinos and it's crazy. I haven't told anyone. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I think I need counselling, how can I take the next positive steps forward ?
Admit you have a gambling problem would be the first step. At the moment you're just blowing your monthly pay packet. When you get into debt too it becomes harder and worse.Â

Hello andyrr
Thank you for sharing on our forum.
Well done for reaching out for support during what sounds like a really tough time for you. It’s really difficult living with symptoms of depression and anxiety; feeling like you’re not in control of your gambling can exacerbate everything even more. But there is help out there for you and you’re not alone.
To find out more about accessing counselling, I’d really encourage you to contact our Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or through our 1:1 Livechat - both open 24 hours every day. We can tell you more about our one to one support specifically for people affected by gambling related harms.
If you’re looking for more general counselling, your GP would be a good place to start. The charity Mind also have some information on how to find therapy on their website here.
Wishing you all the best,
Ellen

I'm so sorry to hear that . You must understand that relapses may happen. Forgive yourself if you slip up and use it as an opportunity to recommit to your recovery. Maintain connections with friends and family. Isolation can exacerbate addiction and mental health issues, so stay engaged with your support network. If you haven't already, consider getting a professional evaluation for your depression and anxiety. Appropriate treatment can significantly improve your mental health and support your recovery from addiction.Â
