Hi all,
I suffer from Anxiety and have been gambling for 13 years mostly football and blackjack.
I've both won big and lost big. I thought I was turning my life around but a few months ago I lost my dream job and have been losing incredibly large amounts of money.
I've tried various methods in the past to stop including joining GA and self excluding from casinos.
Im now in so much debt im really scared how I can even begin to tackle it and im also worried about my credit score taking a big hit
Im worried about having somewhere to live and I want to stop but im really worried and scared about the debts and maxed out all my credit cards.
Even if I get debt help the fact remains that it still exists and effectively even if I stop gambling I can't save any money as I have so much debt yo pay.
Hi! I'm new here and unfortunately I don't have any financial advice for you. But you have to stop or the problem will become even bigger. Maybe focus on getting employment to try and begin to sort the debt out. Turn to family for support if they know of your problem. I'm totally with you on how your feeling. I'm feeling pretty terrible at the moment too. Keep your chin up and try to stay positive.
Hi addictiondon.
Gambling while unemployed is an important subject for discussion. I know that being unemployed, amplified my stress and depression. It caused thoughts like oh Ive nothing better to do so I will just go a win a bit of money.
Any stress the dwp gave me would be taken out infront of a machine.
I also felt stuck in the flat so when the landlord started renovating next door for 13 weeks I had to get out and ended up gambling to fill my days. I was so addicted that I didnt realise what gambling was doing to me until it was almost too late.
Being unemployed is stressful and humilitiating in that I am judged by what I do. However you have to fight this addiction and realise that gambling is not the answer to unemployment or other issues
Unemployment is a dangerous and understandable trigger...oh i will just increase this giro a bit....like hell I did as all my money disappeared into a slot.
You have to face your debts in the way that they can only have a pound per payment if you are non working. You can not and must not let debt worry you ill. There are people like the CAB who will be supportive as you cant pay what you cant afford.
There is a point where you concentrate on a gambling recovery and dont worry yourself ill about a credit score.
Please ring gamcare try a GA meeting and take the tried and trusted advice on this forum to tell people and block.

Thanks brokenwoman and joydivider. I have contacted various organisations but i still gamble. Ive just secured a temporary job while the pay isnt great it will at least help me to pay off some of these debts. Its not just debts I am worried about cash because i have to pay rent and i also need to leave this place as its short term so need to find money for rent and deposit upfront and i dont have anything.
Hi
Yes I know about the pressures and do feel for you. Im very familiar with the precarious lifestyle and the money needed for crazy levels of deposits and rent. My landlord could ask me to leave at any time now because he wants to renovate and up the rent.
Life isnt easy and many people cant even afford to rent now
Im heading to a static caravan at the rate Im going but gambling isnt going to help me out. All it did was magnify my problems many times over and add to my financial problems.
I understand how gambling becomes a tax on the poor as it becomes a last chance saloon for many people
You need to focus though that gambling is not the answer to these issues. Its not an income scheme on the side. If It was I wouldnt even consider going to work.
I know its not easy but compulsive gambling will just cause you misery and new lows. You should get some financial advice because debts have to be faced and you can only pay back what you can afford.
I hope your job goes well but you seriously have to knock gambling on the head.
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
