I Have always had a gambling issue but never admitted it. Losing a few hundred here or there playing poker. Which led to stealing from family cash reserves to pay rent with etc not proud of all that.

But i eventually confessed to my father which was so hard to do. after dipping into his business bank account (which i managed for him) for about 2 or 3k over a few months. Mainly after discovering football betting during lockdown.

He advised me to move back home and never gamble again, so i could save and  have a fresh start. Im 34 btw so pretty degrading. Women arnt interested because of it all etc etc.

I ended up investing my savings in bitcoin with his aproval, made 10x and was loving my chances of a new life. But then i started to dabble in futures, betting on bitcoin raising or dropping in value at up to 100x leverage

This casued me to lose all 10k i had saved pretty quickly, it should be illegal.

I was then enraged and chasing so somehow managed to borrow 25k in the space of 5 minutes from 5 lenders (never been in more than 3k debt before) And this went the same way. Within a day or two.

I feel worthless. I dont know if i can tell my father. He still thinks i have the original 10k.

My repayments come in at 1800 per month. I get paid 2000. Its sickening.

Any advice? Could I do something to reduce the debt perhaps. Im pretty much dead inside at this point. But id rather suffer in silence than make some terrible mistakes. Which i dont need to explain.

Hi daystodaze

First of all, well done. Talking is the first step. What you’ve done is incredibly brave. I don’t know what to suggest about the debt but I would talk to your dad. There must be a way around this for you. Don’t be afraid to talk. In terms of the debt maybe you could speak to each company that you’ve got the debt with and explain the situation. I’d also potentially try and speak to a counsellor about it so that they can recognise your triggers.

I hope you manage to do something, take care
