Hello everyone,
My name's Aaron, I've been putting this off for sometime now and finally bit the bullet! Hope I can find some good help here and maybe even support others.
Day 1 has started...
Hi Dean,
Probably about 11 years ago I started gambling, not so bad at first but the last 7/8 years have been hell! Bet mainly on football and shop machines, but would try turn my hand to anything, last night I blew 500 betting on virtual greyhound racing and that was enough for me, this has to stop now! I have a young son and one on the way, the missus pulling her hair out and we ain't in the best of places...everything is so stressful!
Just on lunch at work, day 1, normally I'd buy a few scratch cards, but I've been shop and the thought crossed my mind, left without buying a single one! Weird but good feeling and glad I didn't!
Thanks mate, and 10 weeks is huge!! When I get to 10 weeks I'm going to feel like I've climbed Everest!
Day 1 almost complete and feeling quite positive so just going to feed off that and aim for day 2!
Well done gooner. Keep on approaching it one day at a time. I recommend writing a list of reasons to gamble and reasons not to gamble from your perspective. This sounds simple but it will give you something to look at and clear your mind, hopefully letting you see things more rationally and helping you abstain. Remember, there is no way you will ever be able to control yourself in gamble mode...none of us can! But, the longer you stay gamble free and truthfully 100% abstaining I can testify, myself being 148 days gamble free, and others who are longer gamble free, that it gets easier and you will want to turn all the effort you once placed into gambling into abstaining. It almost becomes our new addiction and gives us newfound strength in our own ability! Keep us posted and good luck.
