Hi Anna,

Welcome to the site...you will get to speak to lots of people on here who have all been ior are going through the same sort of thing as you. You have made a great start by admitting you have a problem....but more importantly you have opened up to someone about it.

Next step for me would be to put some things in place that make it more difficult for you to gamble if you ever get the urge.

You dont say what type of gambling you do...but if its online then excluse from these sites and you can put blocker son phones and lap tops that mean you cannot use them. If its in bookied take a picture in and exlude from these. You can hand you finances over to someone to take away the temption and just ask for money for what you actually need it for.

As well as all that i would recoment speaking to someone at gamcare...you can call or chat to them online.

You might not be in a greta place just now but as they say time is a great healer.....have a look through some of the diaries on here, you will see there is lots of people, including myself, who are in a similar position to you.

I wish you well with you recovery.
Damian

Hi Anna and welcome to the forum ! Look at the moment everything's going to seem very muddled in your head , lots of different emotions running around and nothing making much sense . You've already had some great advice from the other guys above so all I'm gonna say is that the debt can be dealt with and although it seems a huge amount for someone especially of your age to deal with , it's just money ! Over time it can be repaid and it doesn't have to be done in one lump or straight away , all of us on here are affected by debt to some extent and just as we have learned to accept it and deal with it , then so will you . The important thing right now is to stop gambling and in a few weeks you'll begin to have a clear head and think a bit straighter again . Just don't panic over it , you've made a great start by coming here and also telling your parents who I'm sure will be supportive of you when they realise you are serious about getting help . Please speak with gamcare if you have any concerns with the debt or any other issue as that's what they are here for ! Stay safe and keep posting Anna and I will talk to you again soon ! Best wishes Alan

Hi anna5 that is alot of money and it would make anybody feel down!! I admit i am not in that dept but i could of been if i had acsess to that money, gambling can take all the money you have, be it £10 or £100,000! I garantee it was on them fobt machines, i done free play once online and i lost 10,000 in 15 minutes, its a very bad thing to get into and it takes money so fast!, they should be banned. Anyway i was loosing £1000s a day at my worst and you know the 'only' positive i did get out of it was i had to tell myself and believe that money is not everything, yeh it helps but its just paper, there are always things that can still make you smile, just think the more money you have the more your loose and the more your feel bad for loosing it, so by not having money atleast you are not feeling awfull by still loosing more, keep your chin up we all make mistakes, unfortuently thats apart of life
