I’ve been here before and I sincerely this is the last time I do an introduction/start a diary.

I thought I was over gambling at the beginning of this year, then I got hooked in to the art of trading. I did reasonably well for a while.

Then the normal traits appeared. I lost £20 on a trade and I wanted ‘my money’ back so I bet/not traded on another goal to be scored in a football match.

I tried Horse Racing, Football, Tennis, Cricket and Golf. All of them had success to varying degrees but once I lost on a trade I had I kept reverting to betting to get ‘my money’ back.

I lost £230 on Saturday but thought I had a really easy way of getting that back.

Did I decide enough was enough at that point and give up? Of course not. I wanted my money back. I deposited a further £2,000, all of my wages, bar a few hundred. I won some back on some football games to get up to about £2,300.

I then spotted another opportunity to get all the way back upAgain, I was in with a chance of getting all my money back. Again, of course £ I had deposited on Sunday had all gone.

I had to book two days off work. The only days I could get were today (Friday) and yesterday. I lay there depressed all day yesterday. Before something in me decided to try and cheer myself up with a few beers. There was football and tennis on. I transferred the last remaining funds in my bank.  I saw a couple of opportunities.

Of course, he didn’t win. Another £700 gone. Just shy of £5,000 in one week that I had in my bank all gone.

As I mentioned I thought I was over this. Over the last 10 years I have been here twice before, can’t remember the usernames or e-mail addresses I used though. In the last 10 years I had set up a DMP with StepChange and with that and another loan of £15,000 I had to take out, my total debts were £73,000. I am down to having £8,000 left to pay. I am negotiating with my creditors to get full and final settlement offers. If I had kept my money/withdrew the £2,250 from b*****r I could have maybe cleared it all.

That said, the money has gone. I know that. I have signed up with GAMSTOP and I can no longer access any betting sites. I have deleted Flashscores and any other similar app from my phone and laptop history.

I’m not looking for sympathy. The reason for writing this was to say that Thursday 3rd September was the last time I placed a bet. I hope to never place one again. I also hope that within 6 months I can pay off the remaining £8,000 I owe then move on to the ultimate goal of saving for a house for me and my family. The children deserve someone so much better than me.

I hope you all had a gamble free day today and for many years to come.

Hi Jonny

To have reduced your debt  to 8k from 73k shows you have the determination to clear the rest of your debt in no time at all.  When that’s paid out, you can put all your focus  toward a new house for your family.  Use the house as your reason to stop betting.

i have my own house but I stupidly regret blowing 400-500 every month for   X amount of years knowing I could have put a serious dent in my mortgage and made things a lot more comfortable for my family.   Selfish actions that hunt me almost every night and day.

All the best going forward.

Thanks very much for the response. Been keeping myself busy and away from gambling this weekend.

Hope you've had a good one.
