I have just found out that a family member is a compulsive gambler and has been for the best part of 20 years. I’m feeling so angry and disappointed now I’ve realised just how much money has been lost over the years and how in some ways unwittingly I have been enabling the addiction. It just feels so wasteful and I feel ashamed not to have seen the signs earlier. There is a long road ahead and it’s scary but with the right support we can see a way out of the nightmare that is addiction.
Hi Comedyman,
We are glad you are able to talk about the way you feel. It sounds as though you are being hard on yourself; hopefully over time you will see that the gambling was well hidden and you were not to know.
Take care of yourself, and feel free to contact us on our helpline or netline.
Best Wishes
