I have been on and off here last few years. Lost some more money on the weekend just short of 1k. Now I know others have lost far more and so have I probably like £30 k plus over the years. Since I lost the money again thoughts of what I could of done with it etc. But I'm fortunate enough that I can replace with savings atm. But now I'm like I'm 1k short!! But actually still in an ok position, just need perspective could always be better but could be a whole lot worse. I suppose it's just the way this illness works. I'm feeling down today and a sense of frustration and loss. Why again.....
hi gary, saw your post and thought about how we supported each other over the years. I don't post much these days, just read. I am with you tonight, i know that sickening feeling. I have myself quit now. I wont say why or how, suffice to say I reached rock bottom with £500.00 left, but ........................... I survived. Thinking of you - Paul
Paul great to hear from you. Yes mate we have been there for each other and will continue to do so pal. It's a horrible thing how it gets us. Thanks for posting I've been wondering how you we're doing. Glad you're battling on. The money is a by product and a very painful one but it's us all as people that count. It's so easy to become fixated on the money and as we know it's never enough
Hi Garydav5.
You know it a very unhealthy feeling and replacing it with savings still means you are 1k short. Your mind will twist the perspective in that you are sort of ok for the build up to do it again. Oh Im still half ok is the addictive thoughts winning. When I was gambling I used to jiggle the money around to delude myself
Youve chucked a grand away just like I chucked £2500 away over a few sessions and tens of thousands away over 40 years
Its a difficult one, Im not trying to depress you but the perspective is that youve handed that money over for what exactly? Did you honestly have fun or was it all a mix of adrenaline, grim determination and stress?
You havent handed it to good causes or a deserving child in hospital ( to pull your heart strings). You havent bought your family presents with it.... Youve handed it to a gambling den! who set the odds heavily against you. They are not running an income scheme...I wish someone was running a free money shop..... I would join the queue.
You know the feeling is like chucking it down the strorm grid. You know the thoughts racing throught your mind is that youve gone and chucked it away. That is the stark reality so what are you going to do about it before it happens again and again
Have you moved to a stage of telling people close and self excluding from these places/sites?
Im talking tough love in the hope I can snap you into action to do what is needed
Being gamble free is a wonderful feeling of self respect and freedom.
best wishes from everyone on the forum

Thanks for your post it hit me hard, hit the spot and thankyou for making me understand the magnitude of it. I didn't mean to say it flippantly like it's only a £1000 I meant I have to put in perspective the loss and the effect it can have on me.,If I dwell on it I will want to win it back and end up losing more. This illness isn't about the money but losing it makes our lives harder. So I'm going to take advise and try and protect what I have and abstain from the evil that is gambling. I was lucky the weekend had my credit card out very dangerous had one bet and lost £600 and then all my other efforts to deposit were declined. Good job as I was in the zone. Credit card cut up now and making a plan to pay off.
Affected by gambling?
