Hi, I am new to the site & looking for advice. I have a severe addiction to the slots & I really need to kick the habit once & for all! Both myself & my partner gamble & weekly go out to play the slots. We justify this by saying we work all week & rather than going to the pub on a weekend we go out & play the fruitys! If only it was that simple.. We do only go once a week that's correct we curb the addiction the rest of the time but it is different to going to the pub as we are not happy unless we are shovelling in hundreds of pounds chasing that big win... Even when we do get it we are usually that far down we put it back through chasing another win to try & break even it's ludicrous really & we know this! After several years & thousands of pounds later we really are desperate to sort this out once & for all so please can anyone give any tips on breaking this vicious cycle??? We have never managed more than a few weeks before? We don't gamble at home on laptops etc thank god I fear we would be in a worse position had we stumbled down that path so it is a once a week outing we are trying to cure (not that this should imply it is a tiny problem we have as we lose a fortune once we are there!!!) please any help tips or guidance would be really gratefully received. Does any have any tips that have worked for them? I just don't get it the addiction is not physical so why is it so hard to break!?!?!?
There's a lot of good quitting tips as you call them on many of these forum pages so maybe worth spending a bit of time reading others suggestions
You could always ring gamcare on the above phone support for some advice
However if you really are struggling you might need some extra help such as counselling, group therapy or the like
