Hello 123Lup
Welcome to the forum.
I've lost my money and made the dash from FOBT to ATM; desperate to make it back to the FOBT before someone jumps on the machine and wins because I'm convinced It's about to payout.
It never did.
I've gone to place a (not so in my case) harmless accumulator only to end up on a FOBT for such a long time that the races I went in to bet on had been and gone without me even noticing.
I can only bring your attention to your penultimate sentence. If you don't feel you can help yourself maybe it's time to let someone help you by handing over or limiting the amount of your money you have.
You don't seem to want to give up betting on football, that's your choice and I respect that. Some people only have a problem with one form of gambling. My concern would be that just giving up roulette when it's widely available when betting on football is going to be very difficult. It would probably be easier for you to try to stop both forms of gambling rather than one.
Best wishes
Glint
Hi Lup
I agree with Glint, giving up both is your best option, one leads to the other.
A compulsive gambler just cannot stop....I'm one myself and unless my blocks were put in the way then I would not be feeling how I do now :-). I don't wish to cast assumptions as were all different, but believing the football is ok would make me believe it's the addiction talking not you, and not wanting to completely let go yet. Addiction is a horrid thing and makes us believe our own irrational lies to allow ourselves to bet again. I doubt an alcoholic who drinks Whisky would be able to just stick to vodka and that be ok...and I believe it's the same for us. It's great that you self excluded, did they let you in after you had done this? If they did then that is an issue, but not their fault as this is your addiction and you must take ownership for it. Maybe going in there with someone and telling them again your self excluded and should not be placing bets might help to reinforce it with them. It is something they are suppose to take seriously. Also telling those close to you is a big help, it takes some pressure off, and addiction feeds on lies, no lies means it's harder to gamble and it's a good step in beating it, it took me time to build up the courage but once I had things seemed better, not easy! But my recovery could begin, it was someone that could take charge and help me get my barriers in place, I couldn't trust myself to do it. If you want it you can do it, the helpline can help you, and this forum is a Wealth of knowledge, people on here will get you and understand your thoughts and feelings. Maybe start a diary on you journey? I find it helps me get through each day, all my little thoughts are written down and it helps me process things.
I wish you luck, you can do this!!!
Hi i got a big problem. I love these machines n cannot stop playing them. I lost 5000 pounds in three days. I'm not walking to cash point, i just use my card n tell the person behind the the counter in bookies to recharge my machine with 500 pounds each time n betting max 100 pounds each spin n before you knw it i lose 2 to 3000 pound in the matter of an hour. I owe my parents almost 15000 pounds n keep on lying to them. I hate myself for that n having mood swings n take it out on my family. I seriously need help. I rang Game care today and the person was very helpfull n told me someone gonna call me in two days for face to face conselling. I hate myself for what im doing. I really need help. I been gambling for last 15 years n always knew i got a problem, But now i really need to stop. I cannot talk to my family as im muslim n its just wrong in my religion to gamble and i cant be a loser in my family eyes.
BAN THE FOTB BAN THE FOTB , crack of gambling , wrecking poor families all over the UK makes me sick !!!!!!!!!!!
The introduction of the FOTB's machine in all our bookies (normally four a shop - I bet they wish they had wall's full) has been a catastrophic disaster for thousands of people, many on this site. The failure to regulate these machines properly has lead to many many people getting into serious debt, followed by all sorts of mental health issues. If I had never seen those machines in a bookies, and carried on with my usual £1 football accumulator, I would not be in the financial mess I am today. If these machines had been regulated properly with say a maximium £5 bet per go, I reckon this site would not be necessary. The evils of roulette would be consigned to the casino's (which I might add have also grown in numbers far too quickly) and the great majority of us would never have turned to chasing large sums of lost money. When 'pleasure forms' are placed in front of us, if the effects are really harmful, they have to be removed or made extremely difficult to attain through location or by price or by illegality. Cigarettes are now high prices, illegal drugs are llegal, it's time for this gambling that's floods our everyday day lives to be much more better regulated. In the U.S. on-line gambling is not allowed in certain states, we need in this country to save our future generations from this terrible potential addication. I'm with Spraggy, ban the FOTB's. Take the bookies back to where they were, a small bet shopping arcade. How do we as the one's who have suffered start the ball rolling ?
I fully agree. I would like to add that they destroy people on any stake from 20p upwards. The rate at which you can bet soon brings out compulsive behaviour. Bringing them to the high street is a highly cynical and calculated move. It brings them to the very group of people that need the most protection.
Roulette and Blackjack are not soft games yet I saw people playing them as if it was sure fire winning system compared to the fruit machines. I dont even think the ball image is random on a machine. Even Einstein said there was no system to beat roulette
At a very minimum they should be back in casinos where you have to become a member and sign in.
My view is that it should be banned altogether. If I didnt have a loving family that can support me through a two month debt plan I would have been on the streets with a sleeping bag long ago. I was gambling my rent money and anything else I had.
We are up againt company billionaires. If you have had any direct dealings with this government you will know how devious and untrustworthy they are. I think there has been a campaign and I would like to join it
Hi joyrider thanks for reading this thread and my post. As a further post on a wet cold sunday afternoon in the UK - because of today's weather conditions how may people are bored out of their heads because they can't get out for a walk in the park, or a bike ride, take the dog down the canal towpath? Thousands I expect and I bet a far larger percentage than normal will be gambling on their phones or in the bookies because of this awful weather, my point being if we could not gamble (like it wasn't in our faces on every TV channel) we would have to resort to older types of forms of entertainment - read a book, do a crossword, play a board game, talk to one another - this all sounded really boring to me 6 months ago - but now I am just glad I can afford a newspaper and relax in front of the TV, because where I was going was on the streets due to roulette gambling. So for our future generations it needs to be banned taken out of the spotlight. Anybody else out there care to comment - what about the CEO's of pills, offal, bet head's and brokes - any observations?
Yep, lets ban alcohol, prescription drugs, s*x, P*********y, shopping, caffeine as well. Lets ban computer games, glue, lighter fluid, the internet. Or perhaps we could spend our energies on our own personal wellbeing & why as a society we have an ever increasing dependence on addiction to regulate our moods

hi day@time, not too sure the dependance on addication is increasing, since time began people have sort relief from the regularity of life, I guess most people smoked in the forties and into the fifties to relax and de-stress, and we all know where that particular vice can lead to. Gambling as of to-day is a vice that is so readily available to all (really easily) where as 30 years ago, you only had the footie bet's and horse racing. The point is this is a vice/addication which is not easily noticeable except by your ever dwindling bank account (no obvious visual effects as others have) and more often than not if we are on here its got really bad.
The bookies were nay so bad in the fifties-eighties, you lost a few quid, the machines were not there. no quick way to chase your losses. If you think it's a bad idea to further regulate these machines or remove them from the bookies, what suggestions do you have to stop people using them. Most people who use those machines (and who have suffered on them) only begin to assess their lives/moods/future existence after they have lost a lot. Self anaylsis only tends to come after personal angiush and stress hit's you.
The world doesn't evolve without corruption. It's been like that since day dot, if we want to go that far.
It's the individuals source we need to address. It's not easy and I do get the sentiments completely, but .......
its pretty simple to me, it the fotb stake was reduced or removed from the shop completely, 50% at least I reckon of the traffic on here would go away. Once you have been bitten by the fotb's at first you think you can go back and win thoses losses back ............................ when you get here for about the tenth time you re-alise you cannot win. So to stop you getting here via the FOTB, lower the max.stake or remove. Its a no brainer. Yes people some people will find other ways ,,,,,,,,,,,,, but a great deal will be saved.
Paul, I can't agree more with what your saying. But, thats why we're here.
So, I go back to my original ' the world evolves with corruption '.
It's how we see the world. Gamblers are trying to take a short cut to our perceived happiness. Then when it's gone, we realise, we probably had it all along. The world still goes around despite our grievences...

Well I take your point but I see gambling a prime example of something that should be heavily regulated or banned altogether.
We could talk about the pressures in life and the fact that many people are losing their way. I dont want to see a culture of blaming the victim.
Hi guys, I hear a lot of people saying 'ban the fobt' or 'remove them'......Let's be honest it's never going to happen so waiting for that day to come is like waiting to win the lottery. You can get a lot of support and advice here but it's all about will power! Without buckets of will power there's no chance!
Hi, I'm not trying to say that the banning or regulating of fotb's is the answer to all gambling addication issues. Most people on here offer great advice and support as does the gamcare forum office, however there comes a point where people have to make a stance/issue about one of the major causes of problem gambling in the UK. Sometimes an issue which is detrimental to our future children has to be highlighted and brought to the powers that be's attention. I am looking into the best way to achieve this.
Affected by gambling?
