Hi,

Im 38 years old and ive been gambling for 20 years. Ive suffered from various mental health issues including anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. Ive struggled with gambling from day 1 and the amount of money over lost is sickening. I know the gambling has been the main cause of me having these mental health issues and yet i continue to do it. I also heavily binge drink to the point of having blackouts and this weekend has been bad, very bad. Ive lost thousands, ive binged on alcohol and ive done things im ashamed of which i would never do when not gambling or drinking. Im married with two children and the consequences of what ive done this weekend will hopefully not come to light. im here to start fresh, im here to stop gambling and to stop binge drinking. Although im sick with worry with whats happened this weekend im ready to start fresh. This is day one of a better life!

hi mowgli, adam here we spoke in chat.  It's a great time of the year to quit drinking mate.  I gave up smoking new years 2016 and drinking august 2018 and haven't done either since.  It's all about breaking the habbit and finding new ways to release the stress of everyday life be it it thru sports in the gym, having a coffee in coffee shop, shopping, meal out with friends, listening to music (gigs or at home), holidays, national trust walks etc.  All of these things cost a fraction of the cost of gambling, drinking and smoking so the finances sort themselves out dramatically over the short term and long term.  Get all the blocks in place (see mixers advice on his post "want to do something", join the 100 day challenge with us on another thread to get started.  Then see the days mount up and ur life begin again as at the moment you will be going thru the pity phase that comes aftr all gambling episodes.  Remember breaking the habbit is the hardest part then the rest comes easily after that.  All the best see you in chat im on day 48 i had a relapse last year after 300 days but after breaking the habbit and not going to my poker nights and fruit machines binges im feeling a lot stronger, we all start somewhere lets do this mate......

Hi,

Just read your post im 277 days gambling free and drink only on weekends as a quiet night in. Im thousands in debt from gambling but just keep telling myself 1 day at a time and keep looking forward. Your kids can be such an inspiration, what advice would you give to them and following that advice does bring a great clarity on life and self awareness.

Remember 1 day at a time and always look forward, deal with stress in the now and not tomorrow.

We are always here to help and fight through together.

Hi Mowgli,

I’m the wife of a CG.
I can’t help but think of your wife and children in this. Tell her! She would much rather hear it from you than she would find out elsewhere. Then at least you can work together to start again.

The CG hurts, but the lies and deception hurt too.

Good luck on your new life! I really do hope you can do it!

The thing that I found was it was the nicotine my body craved not the cigerrettes.  So I bought nicotine gum which worked and then slowly reduced gum until I no longer craved it then went onto normally gum.  Now no gum.  Worked really well
